How to sew buttons and cufflinks back on
62How to sew buttons back on
Sewing a button back in is a simple procedure that anyone can handle. In less than five minutes of work your garment will be back in it's former condition and be wearable again.
First off I am writing this to answer a question about buttons and cufflinks. Let me say now that cufflinks should link themselves on; you do not have to sew them in place. However these are only meant for shirts with french cuffs which are more expensive than your run of the mill dress shirt.
To sew a button back on you will need.
- a small needle
- the button that fell off
- thread matching the color used for the other buttons on the shirt
1. Line the button up with the place it used to be on the shirt. If you cannot find that place, button the shirt back up to get the proper alignment
2. cut a length of thread about the length of your forearm.
3. Thread your needle.
4. Tie a knot in your thread at the end. The quickest way to do this is to wrap the thread around your index finger and then use your thumb to roll the thread into a bunch.
5. Start with the needle underneath your shirt and push it through the fabric into one of the holes on the button.
6. Look at the other buttons and create a pattern in the holes that match.
7. Once you have looped through the holes at LEAST 10 times push your needle through to the back and flip the fabric over
8. Using the same technique to tie off thread listed above, tie the thread off as close to the material as possible.
9. Cut off the access thread.
You're done!! Easy right??
