If you're daily struggling with the insidious urge for pulling out eyelashes then you are not alone. There is a surprisingly big number of people in the world who are struggling with this same problem.

The urge to pull out eyelashes is caused by an impulse control disorder called trichotillomania. This problem generally starts early in life and its average onset age is 12 .

People with trichotillomania (also known as compulsive hair pulling or hair pulling disorder) live in a daily struggle with the irresistible urge to pull hair from different parts of their body (the scalp, the eyebrows, the eyelashes the nose or the pubic area depending on the cases).

Trichotillomania is a serious cause of shame and humiliations for hair pullers. And the repeated attempts to beat this vicious habit through will power invariably fails and lead to even more emotion distress.

What makes matters even worse for eyelash pullers is that after years of eyelash pulling, the eyelids become bare and disfigured, and then become a cause of self-consciousness that can have a serious negative impact on the person's relationships and social life.

How to stop pulling out eyelashes :

While will power and repeated resolutions to quit eyelashes pulling invariably fail, this disorder can be easily treated with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

In CBT, the therapist helps the patients figure out the factors that trigger the hair pulling urge and then teaches them ways to stop their response to these triggers. After a while the hair pullers become able to overcome that urge gradually until they're completely cured.

Stopping eyelashes pulling without therapy:

You can also stop pulling out eyelashes on your own by using one of the many self help programs for hair pullers. In fact a big number of such programs are available in the market. The aim of these programs is to help hair pullers overcome their disorder through some daily exercises and practices. Click here to learn about this method for stopping eyelash pulling!
