How to tackle Negative Thinking?
In day to day living there occur many occasions when we tend to indulge in negative thinking. This is not good for our mental health. It leads to stress and many other stress related illnesses which manifests as high blood pressure, heart disease, acidity, loss of sleep, and mental illnesss to name a few.
Different kinds of negative thoughts come to our minds in various challenging situations. Here is a list of questions we should ask ourselves to get a very rational view about these negative thoughts:
- Am I being an extremist? Am I thinking in all-or-nothing terms?
- Am I condemning myself as a total person on the basis of a single event?
- Am I blowing up my weaknesses and forgetting my strength?
- Am I taking responsibility-or worse, blame- for something which, in the first place, is not my fault?
- Am I taking something personally-which may have little or nothing to do with me?
- Am I expecting myself, or another person, to be perfect?
- Am I over-reacting and thinking in terms of a disaster?
- Am I exaggerating about what my mistake would imply?
- Am I worrying about the way things ought to be instead of accepting and dealing with them as they come?
- Am I being a fatalist and assuming that I can do nothing to change the situation?
- Am I assuming disaster in the future when I can only guess about what may happen?
- Am I overlooking solutions to problems on the assumption that they would not work?
I do a couple of affirmations to boost my morale when faced with negative thinking :
I love and approve of myself the way I am….. Louise Hay
Out of this situation only good will come. This is easily resolved for the highest good of all concerned. All is well and I am safe….. Louise Hay

Triplet Mom, Hi. We all do a lot of negative thinking now and then. We should stop it as soon as we ralise that such damaging thoughts are creeping into our mind. For me, I start doing the affirmatuions I quoted. It works. Best wishes to you. Thanks for visiting.
Very good affirmations. Thumbs up for a fantastic hub. Btw here is a hub written on similar lines by another excellent hubber (Marie): http://hubpages.com/hub/Why-I-Choose-to-Not-Connec
Instead of opposing negative thoughts, encourage them. Use reverse psychology. Act as if you are superior to the thoughts. They are powerless against your free will.

Nice quick affirmations. I like your new picture much better too. :)
Negative thinking will never get me down again ..... sometimes it takes a trial of fire to really bring that home.
Common sense things that most of us already know and even agree with but, unfortunately, don't work unless we keep constantly reminding ourselves and practicing them daily. Great Hub!
Thank you Chuck for visiting.
Another important hub, Kulsum. Thank you for it!
Oh, by the way, the author whose affirmations you quote is 'Louise' Hay, not 'Louie,' just in case anyone wants to look for her book, You Can Heal Your Life. It's been very helpful and influential to a lot of people.
Thank you MindfFeld for the corrction. And thanks for visiting.
Thumbs up for a lovely Hub. Liked the affiramtions too
Thank you jayb for the nice comment.

Yes jayb. I will definitely vote for your hub. I hope you will come out as a winner. Best Wishes.
This is an excellent list! It serves as a great reminder. Sometimes we get caught in a negative loop - I think we take too much personally, for no good reason - but then once you start down that road you seem to attract negativity to you.
It's time to stop - take a deep breath - and read through your list. We spend too much time being miserable.
Thanks for this reminder!

Kulsum - Nice hub, I am constantly catching myself with negative thoughts and talk. I try to stop myself and reverse what I am thinking or saying so that it is positive. It is not always easy to do but I continue to change my thinking and speak. Thanks for the hub.
