How to tape your hockey stick
77Taping the blade
This method is the most used in hockey: Taping the blade from your heel to your toe. Your heel is the part where your shaft and blade meet. The toe is the at the end of your blade. Start taping from your heel to your toe, it allows for a player to put more spin on a puck which adds to a shot or pass's accuracy.
What does tape do?
There are different variates of tape, but the most popular one is cloth tape. Taping the blade of your stick provides a grip on the puck so it just doesn't slide off, also tape prevents moisture from building up on your blade (You lose grip on the puck if your blades wet). Taping the top of the stick allows for better control of the puck. Applying tape on your stick is a necessity to be successful in hockey.
When you tape your stick make sure you overlap about 80% of the previous wrap. When you tape your stick make sure that the tape is flat and that there are no bumps. If you have a bump it can cause you to fumble the puck when stick handling. Stop taping your stick once you get close to the toe. Look at the image to the right to see when you should stop. Tear the tap once you're close.
Now rip 4 pieces of your tape so that they're longer than the toe. Look at the picture to the right if you're confused.
Apply two strips on your forehand side and then two on your backhand side so that your entire toe is covered.
Now cut the excess tape off and make it look nice. Now show it off to all your friends and gloat about how you have the best tape job on the team. Use stick wax and wax your stick. If you don't have any wax use a puck and rub it on the stick. Finally, dangle some benders and snipe some tenders. Continue to read if you want to learn how to tape the top of your stick.
Taping the top of your stick
Taping the top of your stick allows you to have better control of the puck and it makes the stick easier to pick up if it falls out of your hand. Simply start by adding a knob at the top of your stick (Tape around the same spot multiple times). Make the knob as big as you like.
Once you've finally finished making your knob pull out a good amount of tape and then start spinning it so the tape turns into a string shape.
Now wrap the string around the shaft. Make sure that the string (tape) is spaced out.
Finally, cut off the string (tape) and add another layer of tape over the string (tape). Now you're ready to go play some hockey! If you need to buy tape the ads on the side usually sell them. Below are some of my other hockey hubs, check em out.
