The human instinct is a deep and incredible system. Imagine millions of years of life on earth and so many survival instincts that have developed over time. It really is possible to have a gut feeling or an intuition if someone loves you, wants to be around you, is trustworthy, or if they are hostile, or they are not a good person, feeling guilty or telling a lie.

Often these instincts take place without a complete awareness, but here is how it works.

Body language reveals more about what a person is thinking than their words. However if the body language does not match what their words are saying, then some unconscious alarm bells start going off in your mind. You can raise your level of awareness by knowing these standard body language statements that reveal how your instincts are picking up on lies. These are not cut and dry however, and you must be careful that you are not reading too much into their normal behaviors.Typically if these behaviours are not the norm for the individual you might have a liar on your hands. And ask yourself before proceeding, do you really want to know?

If a person is normally relaxed in general, yet they become stiff or rigid, or they close off their bodies by moving their arms or legs closer to themselves, you might be looking at a liar. They will avoid eye contact. They might touch their face, mouth, throat. Remember that these behaviors might be normal for some people and if that is the case they are not the best indicators. It is the abnormalities that should be watched.

Timing and gestures might be off the usual pace. For instance you tell someone you love them and they say it back, and then smile, nod or hug you afterward rather than responding immediately with physical gestures.

If they go into an offensive reaction such, "Why would you accuse me of that?" as argument they may be telling the truth. If they go into defense, then there could be dishonesty on some level.

When someone is not being true, their gestures are limited to mouth and face gestures, rather than over all body movements. They may put distance or place an object between you. They might look away often. A liar might use your own words to respond to a question or accusation. For instance, "Did you cheat on me?" is answered by, "No, I did not cheat on you." Defensiveness is often a clue. A truer answer might be. "No I didn't." or "No, certainly not."

They might need to fill up empty spaces in conversation with too much detail. a liar does not like silences or pauses.

Mumbling is often another clue. Guilt reactions can take the form of behaviors that show hiding and secrecy.

A test might be to change the subject quickly. A liar will be relieved and go along with it or even attempt to change the subject themselves. A person telling the truth will want to get back to the issue and have it settles for real. Attempts to be funny or use sarcasm is another sign.

Remember a person can carry all of these traits naturally for other reasons,however it is when these behaviors arise out of character that there may be dishonesty. proceed with caution with this kind of thing, but above all, trust your instincts. They are seldom wrong.
