We say millions of words on any given day, but when it comes to saying what's in our heart, words escape us. If you've ever wanted to tell that special someone how you really feel. Then this is the article for you.

Declaring your love for someone is truly an art. There are things you should make sure to do and things you definitely should not do. Here are the do's and don'ts of telling someone you love them.

Do get there name right. One thing a person will never forget or forgive you for is saying their name wrong. Whether this is mispronouncing the name or just plain saying the wrong name. Try this! Practice saying the person's name in the mirror a few times and then say "I love you, (insert person's name here)". That should get you ready for the big moment.

Do take care of hygiene before you tell your sweetheart how you feel. Whether you need to shower, shave or pop a ticktack. Do NOT declare your love after you just got back from the gym or doing manual labor where you're all sweaty and dirty and stinky. There is no way for your lover to physically reciprocate your sentiment when you are untouchable.

Do come prepared! If you want to say, "I love you, let's get married" or "I love you, let's become exclusive" or "I love you, let's move in together" or just simply "I Love you," make sure you have all the right tools. If you are proposing marriage, you might want to make sure you have the engagement ring. If you are asking the person to move in with you, try slipping a copy of your apartment key in their breakfast muffin. If you just want to say I love you, some roses may help. What ever you're going for, do it right!

Now here are some things you should NOT do...

Do NOT be overly corny. Roses are Red, Violets are blue... is so played out! Do not write a cheesy poem containing those words. Try to write something from the heart. Try this "I love you more than words can say..." or "Every day I awake, I think God that you were brought into my life..." Words like that really tug at a person's heart strings and make you sound sincere. Try it!

Do NOT be inconsiderate. Sure, it's important for you to say what you need to say (i.e. "I love you"), but don't do it at a bad time. For example, at 3 o'clock in the morning when your sweetheart has a meeting at 6AM, or with a spontaneous strip tease via webcam while your honey is at work. Pick your occasion wisely!

Do NOT do it in the same way you did for your ex. If you are repeating the same old tactics you used on your exes, you are either lazy, or not really in love. Be original. Give your boo a display of your love that is unique to his or her own characteristics. If you know (s)he likes basketball, take him/her to a basketball game and get a message printed on the electronic billboard. If (s)he likes animals, get him/her a pet cat, dog, bird, etc.

Here are some tips to consider when telling someone you love them:

  • A gift is not needed, but it would be much appreciated
  • Be spontaneous, but not intrusive
  • Love has no pricetag, so if you're getting a gift, get something from the heart not from the wallet

I hope these simple tips will help you in your attempts to express your love.

Good luck! ;-)
