How to use Credit Cards responsibly?
57Using your credit card
Credit cards make it SO easy to spend money. It's also one of the easiest ways to pay for things. However that being said, it's also the easiest to let your spending get out of control and get yourself into debt.
These are my tips for the sensible use of your credit card:
1. If you are going grocery shopping, only use cash
2. This also applys for shopping for clothing, whether for a special occasion or for your kids shoes. Use cash!!!
3. If you are using your credit card for whatever amount, ensure you have at that time the funds to cover it. In this day and age of internet banking you can buy your airline tickets on your credit card and then pay for them before your bill arrives.
4. If you are buying online, go away from your computer/laptop and really think about whether you really do need to purchase the item.
5. One famous suggestion is to put your credit card away. The most famous solution to this, is to wrap it up in a waterproof covering place it into a container of water and put it into the freezer. This will really put a halt to your compusive purchases.
6. This is an obvious one, use your common sense. Do you really need something else that you are probably only ever going to use once or twice? Something that deep down you know will gather dust?
These are just my personal solutions to using your credit card. Remember that if you do let your debt get out of hand, there is plenty of organisations who can help you, and usually do it for free. I have created a website with some tips etc; Although I am not a financial advisor, I do have lots of experience of dealing with money etc; So if you would like to know more please visit Help Get yourself out of Debt for a step by step plan

I have to respectfully disagree with using cash if a credit card holder can be disciplined. I believe in using credit cards over cash all the time, but totally agree with your point #6. I wrote a hub with a completely different spin:

I would love your opinion.
I just realized you are from Holland - so cool!
Thanks for your comment - I agree with you when you said "I guess my article was coming from the point of people NOT using their credit cards responsibly and unfortunately there are a lot of people thinking that they are getting money for nothing and get themselves into HUGE amounts of trouble." You article is perfect for those type of spenders. Great job!
