How to Speed up Your Pc for Free

I hate waiting for ever for my computer to load when I turn it on. There is nothing worse then needing to check your email because you ordered something online or you need an important invoice number that you have been emailed only to find you have to wait 15-30 minutes for your pc to load so you can use it. This being one of my biggest pet peeves has inspired me to write a hub on my experience on how to speed up your PC with a free program that is one of my all time favorite programs. The best part about this program is that it's free my favorite price what do you know. There are many things you can do to help your pc load faster but this is one of my favorite things to use I just couldn't wait to share this with you all.

This is what you will seee when you open the program

Look on the left hand side you will see the menu bar

The first thing I will do is UPDATE the program

Now look at the menu again do you see TOOLS click on it

Now click on SYSTEM STARTUP

Look at the listings of programs on your start up

Look at the Yellow listing

This is what is on your startup on your pc

Notice the last thing you opened is called System START UP. This is indeed what starts up every time you turn your PC on. What we want to do is look at the programs that start up & make sure they are needed programs. Spybot is my favorite program because it takes the guess work away from this process for you. You do not have to know anything about the programs at all just look at the list do you see the yellow listings? The yellow listings are the main listings that are using up your start up so to speak when they are completely unnecessary. Now there may be a few exceptions to that rule like a tea timer for your Spy-bot program but for their most part Spybot will tell you what you need to know.

Go ahead & single click one of the yellow listings. Do you see on the right hand side a window shows information about the program. If you read NOT REQUIRED, VIRUS, SPYWARE, MALWARE OR OTHER RESOURCE HOG you can uncheck the box which will take the program off your start up. This is what you will see:

Database status: Not required - virus, spyware, malware or other resource hog

There will be a description of what the listing is at the right hand side

There will be a description of what the listing is at the right hand side

Color Codes

This tool lists all programs that are started at Windows startup. If those items are in the database coming with Spybot-S&D, it will display some more information about them. It also allows you to disable (and enable) items, as well as delete them, change them or insert new items.

The entries will be displayed in different colours:

  • Green: legitimate program
  • Yellow: unknown, unneeded or unambiguous program (e.g. malware programs might use the same file name as legitimate programs)
  • Red: malicious program

On Windows 9x and ME, the user has full access to this list. On Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista, the list will display the global and the current user entries. For some functions like seeing all entries or even changing some, the user may need admin or power user rights.

Since version 1.3 entries that have changed since the last snapshot (the first snapshot is created when you started Spybot-S&D for the first time, later on you can create snapshots by right-clicking the list and selecting the corresponding menu item) are displayed in bold letters. This allows you to see changes to the list at once.

You can create a snap shot for Spy-Bot of removed programs you have removed

Now Uncheck all the yellow listings

GREAT JOB!
GREAT JOB!

Now click on Spy-Bot S&D

Click on CHECK FOR PROBLEMS

Now once your scan is done a box will pop up that was not there before it is says FIX SELECTED PROBLEMS click on that box

Click YES on the pop up

Click on the OK Pop up

Now look at the left menu Click on IMMUNIZE

Now you can close your program you are done! Great Job!

Now RESTART your PC

Now once you are done close the program & restart your PC.

When your PC comes back on you will notice there is now an icon in your RIGHT HAND TOOL BAR opposite from your start menu.

You will notice the Spybot Search & Destroy icon has a lock on it. Once any of the programs try to add themselves back to the start up on your PC a Spybot S&D POP UP WILL COME UP & it will say that that program is BLACKLISTED & it will NOT go back on your start up.

From time to time Spybot S&D will ask you about a program that may try to be added to your PC & you can answer this POP UPas you wish. I love this program because it will tell you if something is trying to be added to your PC. You have the power to keep a lot of junk off your start up now. Run this program once a week using the steps above & your PC will be running smooth & loading faster.

Good luck & happy loading! Feel free to ask me about anything on this program.

Now restart your PC open your Spybot program and check once again and you will see the unwanted items are not starting using your PC resources. Your PC should start faster now. Happy surfing and don't forget to check your system start up on Spybot from time to time to keep those unwanted pests off your start up.
