Did you know that if a hub answers a request, question, or hubmob weekly topic, you can show some hublove by voting it up?

You can.

Voting on an answer hub is different than giving it a thumbs up or down on the main page of the hub just above the comments where the rating link takes you. It requires just a bit more effort, but an effort worth while.

PRELUDE

I'm a scanner. I scan my eyes over everything. I don't like to not notice things (even though, like everyone else, I do.)

I also like to click. I'm not an avid clicker, but I do click into articles that catch my fancy; especially when it comes to HubPages.

Over these last few months, I, like almost everyone I know around here, is in one way or another addicted to reading other people's hubs. We get so excited from what we read, sometimes, or are so anxious to get to the next juicy article, that we forget to give a thumbs up. It has long been a habit of mine to give a thumbs up to anything I like, whether I comment or not. Like the order in which one showers, I have an order in which I respond to hubs. In fact it freaks me out when I go to other sites and there is nowhere to give a thumbs up! Maddening. It throws me off completely.

Now, I know not everyone is as odd about this as I am, but it's my way of voting. My way of being heard and letting others know, "Hey, you've got something good here, thumbs up." It's quick, it's easy. It shows the hublove. And I'm all for helping other hubbers, new or old.

As I wrote in my article, Hitchhiker's Guide to Hubs - A Newbie Navigational and Etiquette Guide, looking around and getting your bearings on each hub you're viewing, is important. It benefits both you and the writer. Not to mention, HubPages makes brilliant changes and tweaks every so often, and if you don't look around, you're not going to notice.

I say, be a reporter. Sniff out your surroundings. Get the scoop.

DOWN TO THE NITTY GRITTY

Now, this being said, there is a second way to give a thumbs up. If an article (hub) is in answer to some sort of request or question, whether it be from another hubber or for the hubmob weekly topic, you'll know it if you've checked in the sidebar capsule under the hubber's profile information.

It will say: ANSWERS THE QUESTION

And just underneath that it will tell you what the question was, who asked it, when they asked it.

Then just underneath that it will tell you how many answers there are and gives you the option to "Answer this question"

There isn't one on this page, because I am not answering a question via this hub.  Please direct yourself to the following photos.

This particular spot is the spot you want to focus on. This is the spot you'll be clicking into to vote the hub up or down, as well as to see other hubs that have answered the same question.

This hub answer may have been one written in response to another hubbers question, or it could have been written in response to a hubmob weekly topic.

Either way, unless you are wanting to "answer this question", or see the profile of who the question was written by / who is presenting the hubmob weekly topic, click on the question link or the number of answers link.

This will take you to another page.

At the top, you will see the questioner's profile pic and the question they asked and when they asked it.

Below that you will see a list of answers, similar to how they would appear if you were viewing hubs or hubbers (if you click on the hubs or the hubbers tabs at the top of any HubPages page.

This is where the voting happens. This is where you can see how many vote ups or vote downs hubs under this question or topic has. This is where you can vote. Scroll down to find the hub you were enjoying, and click the up/plus button.

That's it. That's all you have to do. From there you can go back to the hubber or hub you were reading, or scroll to view other answers.  Plenty of links to click.

EASY AS 1-2-3

It is true what they say... Voting is sexy, and your vote counts.

If you have the opportunity to show hublove in this way, as simple as two clicks, why not do it? No one knows it's you or not you that's voting. It takes a small moment of your time and may introduce you to a hub or hubber you would otherwise not have come across.

I'd like to encourage everone to get into this habit. Get involved. Do more than just read.

  1. thumbs up
  2. comment (if you like)
  3. vote

Simple as one, two, three.

As alway, thank you for reading. Now go enjoy some hubs... and look to see if it's votable. Show some hublove, you just may get loved back.

If I vote for lisa, will all my dreams come true, or is that a trick? Will you throw another virtual plate at me?

It took me quite some time to find the vote option for the answers to the question I my self had posted. I just stumbled upon it one day. Great info, and no, I do not think I will vote for lisa. My dreams have already come true.

I always vote thumbs up after leaving a comment, and on occasion when I read a hub and do not leave a comment because its late or I am have work to take care of.  I like to support the writers in Hubpages.

I must confess, I didn't notice the "answers the question", field before. Thanks for alerting me!

Hey there dayzeebee.  That is synchronic coincidence!  You're most welcome.  Glad you stopped by for a read!  And thanks!

Well, Benji, that's what I'm here for.  I'll sit on your shoulder anytime. I'm a good smacker.  Just remember, take a deep breath and think of three things each time you read a hub.  In a couple of days it'll become habbit.  Don't feel bad, cause you're not alone.

Hey there Ms Babbley! I've been a bit annoyed with the buttons to vote for answers. It seems, lately, that there are ill mannered folks who actively pursue topics they're not fond of (e.g. GLBT in the hubmob this week) to vote them down. But that doesn't mean the feature itself isn't chic and can't help show hublove, it just means there's idiots everywhere :-) Thumbs up fer ya, m'dear :-)

raiderfan profile image

Frieda Babbley profile image

Frieda Babbley  says:

Elena, that's exactly why I wrote this. I want more people to be aware of this. Lot of hubs that have nothing to do with the GLBT hubmob are having this happen to them and are going unotticed because people don't know they can vote up. If more people know about this and do it, then perhaps the vote down people can be outnumbered, and a the hub that is truly a worthwhile hub can achieve some noteriety rather than be skipped over. Thanks eleni. Too bad this wasn't answering a request or I may get some extra vote ups, huh?

raiderfan, we understand. It's okay. I'd say stick a post it on your monitor, but then, like many of us, it just wouldn't get read, so would do no good as a reminder. You just keep trying to remember.

Yeah, hairy, I would be too.  That's why I'd taken her out in the first place.  Well, as for the voting.  If you really want to vote, a good place to start would be for any of Frieda's top 8 hottest hubmob hubs.  Or any of frieda's favorite famous redhead comediennes series.  Or go read some hubs that you may perhaps like better and keep checking.  One or more of them is bound to be votable.  Hubbers are very good at answering requests.  In fact, I believe if you click on the "Answers" tab at the top top of each hubpage, that should take you to hubs that are answers to questions and are therefore votable.  You can always scroll through those, you know.  Do you need a hug, hairy?

Hey there canide.  Does it work to give more than one thumbs up?  I didn't think it did.  I thought the second one gets cast aside.  Need to look that one up after dinner.  A rate up and a vote up are different, so if it's a hub that answers, it can get two votes that way.  It's a double rating system, two different pages.  But you can't vote twice over there, it won't let you.  At least not signed in as the same person.  I'll be back later on tonight with the scoop on the double rate up deal, unless someone else has the link or copy/paste of info.  if it's two rates up, I'd better get to double rating!  I'm glad you brought this up Candie. I hate not knowing things for sure!

Okay, so here's the scoop. I found under help (see help button on upper right of top navigation) under "How is HubScore computed", that one of the things that helps a HubScore is the number of thumbs up ratings a hub receives from UNIQUE visitors. So, if it's there it wouldn't hurt to click, but it won't count unless you are a unique visitor. So I'm with you, just in case, as long as I'm in there and it allows me too, I will. Thanks Candie.
