Tokyo Sightseeing - Rainbow Bridge
61Information on Rainbow Bridge
Rainbow Bridge is one of the most famous landmarks in Tokyo recognized by millions the world over. The bridge is nearly 600m long and has two decks (upper deck for toll highway users and a lower deck which houses a walkway, train and free road users).
The bridge has red, blue and green lamps which are powered by solar energy during the day. Passengers are able to walk across during the hours of 9am-9pm during the summer season and 10am-6pm during winter.
Walk Across
The bridge is accessible by taking the Yurikamome Line from Shimbashi Station to Shibaurafuto Station. The ride will take approximately 7 minutes and will put you within 2 blocks of the base of Rainbow Bridge (see picture).
You can also use google maps here if you need better directions.
Unfortunately there are no bicycles allowed on the walkway so you will have to park it at the base of the tower and retrieve it later if you live close enough to bike. Also, there are no bathrooms on the walkway so try to use the facilities before you begin the walk as it will take approximately 20 minutes to get to the other side.
On the return trip you can get on the Yurikamome Line in O-daiba and take it all the way back to Shimbashi or Shibaurafotu (if you biked). It's a good relaxing trip and you can get some shopping done in Odaiba.
