How to find articles for a local community website

Have you heard the new catchphrase going around lately because so many newspapers are going under?

Hyperlocal Blogs

Hyperlocal blogs are sprouting up all over the place because normal everyday people are jumping in and filling a void that shut down newspapers are leaving. A lot of Hyperlocal bloggers are simply covering stories that are not covered by local paper media.

I am a hyperlocal blogger from a small town in North Carolina. I cover a ton of events in my small town and I shoot a lot of video. You would be surprised how many people in your community are interested in videos of your community that cover local events.

You do not need to be a professional journalist or videographer to find local articles. It's actually quite easy. Just find a local event such as an Art Walk or Festival In The Park and grab your camera. Shoot the video or take some photos and upload to YouTube. Place the video on your blog and add some keywords to your article such as the name of the event and the City, County & State where the event happened. Do a few of these and i promise your local folks will start finding your site. Citizens in your community are always doing Google searches for local news.

Below is an example of a story I recently covered in my hometown. We had a Motorcycle Classic Event that was attended by a ton of local folks. I covered it and shot video and pictures. This article has sent my hyperlocal site a ton of Google traffic. What are you waiting on? Get out there and become a hyperlocal blogger.

Here is the hyperlocal website I publish. Monroe Scoop. Monroe, NC.

Never lose an opportunity to create an article for your local website. Always carry a video camera or a digital camera when you leave the house. You would be surprised how much traffic a single photo on your blog can bring you if you write a carefully worded article about it.

One of my favorite digital flip cameras that I use as a hyperlocal blogger is the Kodak Zi6. It's very inexpensive and worth it's weight in gold as a publisher of a local community website. You just never know when something will happen right before your eyes that would make a great video. Just about any camera will certainly do but I'm partial to the Zi6. If you would like to see the ins and outs of this little gem, you can check out my video review. Kodak Zi6 Review.

Good luck!
