What makes a great writer

A great writer, irrespective whether you are writing on a popular topic or otherwise should have

1. Personal knowledge/experience about the topic.

2. Be very keen about sharing their experience.

3. Don't just write for money. Writing is like any other art, it comes from the heart. The topic has to be something that you really care about.

4. Write as if you are sharing a secret with a close friend, or teaching a small child the meaning of life.

5. Add abit of humor if you can

If we take care of all the above-said things, we won't be able to write profusely.

Some people can just tell a story and others can't.

Read through a magazine or newspapaper and note the articles that grab you and keep you reading all the way through - it is not always the subject but the way in which the writer keeps you engaged.

Whenever I am writing or speaking in public I try to put myself in the position of the reader/listener and think about how they would be reacting to what I am saying. I may think my dog is very cute and clever but no-one else will agree with me unless I find a way of expressing it...

"My dog welcomed me home"

or

"As I walked in the gate I was met by a pair of bright brown eyes and tail wagging so strongly it almost hit his ears on each side! To my delight I found that I was also being presented with his favourite toy - how could I have possibly stayed out for so long?"
