What You Need to Know Before Buying Vending Machines

What to Vend and Where to Vend it?

Before you purchase vending machines for your home business you need to decide what to product, and style of vending suits your lifestyle, your personal goals, location, and so on. Do you want to establish a snack and soda combo vending machine route, a beverage vending route, a healthy vending route, a bulk candy, gum ball or other type of vending business?

Remember, different vending machines vend different products and different products sell better through vending machines placed in certain locations than other products would sell in the same location. So before deciding what kind of vending machines to start a business with, you would be well advised to decide what kind of vending product will appeal to consumers at potential locations to place your vending machine. For instance, a healthy vending machine will be easier to place and generate more vends in a fitness center than a snack and soda machine. Similarly, a coffee vending machine is more conductive to offices and break rooms than a gum ball vending machine. Thus, it is important to consider the potential locations you will be placing your machines in when deciding on what product to vend and which vending machines to buy.

Size Matters!

Again, before buying vending machines to start your business, take into consideration the the location you want your vending machine to be placed. Will compact vending machines serve your purpose best or should you go with larger, full line vending machines? Should buy countertop vending machines, or place you vending machines on stands? Each method has its benefits and drawbacks. From my personal experience, I've found the most success with bulk and compact vending machines (whether on stands or countertops) than larger snack and soda vending machines. Smaller vending machines tend to be easier to place since they take up less floor space in businesses, break rooms, etc.

Think Energy Efficient Vending Machines!

Another important decision when buying vending machines, also related to locating your machines, is energy efficiency. No business owner wants to pay the electricity cost to keep your vending machine plugged in so you can make money. Moreover, governments have recently been taking increased initiatives to crack down on the energy efficiency standards of vending machines. This is yet another reason I prefer smaller, preferably coin-operated vending machines for my vending routes.

Be Unique!

Find products and vending machines that you truly believe in and are not already all everywhere you look. Certain segments of the vending industry. One starting a vending business in such a segment will likely be overwhelmed by the competition and find it difficult to find good locations that do not already have a similar vending machine. If possible, do your research and find products and vending machines business that are unique so that you will be able to easily introduce your product to and place your vending machines in locations where no similar vending machines are present. Basically, you want to sell a product you beleive in, one that appeals to consumers and you want vending machines that are equally unique and appealing.

Where to Buy Vending Machines

Once you've identified a product and vending machine that best fits your business goals, it's relatively easy to find reputable vending machine businesses to buy. Search franchise websites, online classifieds, and small business opportunity magazines and websites. Avoid purchasing used vending machines. The low prices of some used vending machines might be tempting, but remember that, in most cases, you get what you paid for. The money you save buying a used vending machines will likely be spent many times over on fixing and repairing the used vending machines. In my experience, I've encountered nothing but trouble with nearly all of the used vending machines I've bought over the years.

One last word of advice, don't believe everything you read in online discussions and vending forums. Most posts made on vending blogs and vending forums are submitted by companies attempting to push their vending machines, usually by making posts that claim they are satisfied customers or by making false claims about their competition.

We know someone in the business who actually hired their parents to work the route to keep them filled. Quite a time committment but apparently profitable...or at least last we heard.

It certainly can be profitable Peggy W...Time consuming at first but, in my opinion, well worth it!
