The answer to the question, "How Can I Fix My Cell Phone?" is not an easy one to answer. As the owner of a website dedicated to Cell Phones, and Cell Phone Accessories, I have run into a lot of interesting situations in regards to this question. The first way I would address it is to say, "don't try and do it yourself unless you have some backround in electronics or Mobile Phone repair". There are too many things that can go wrong. The major cell phone manufacturers, such as: Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Pantech and Palm Treo have service centers that can accomodate most any repair. Also service providers like: AT&T Wireless, (formerly Cingular Wireless), Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, Nextel, Sprint PCS and Alltel usually have local company stores that can send your phone out for service. Don't forget to fill out the warranty information when you first purchase your phone. Most cell phones have a 1 year limited warranty. I will include important phone numbers at the end of this article.

Another variation to, "How Can I Fix My Cell Phone?" is "How Can I Fix My Cell Phone It Got Wet?" My answer to this question is usually replace your phone. If you are desperate, DON'T turn the phone on, take the battery out immediately and dry the phone out for a couple of hours. This rarely works and if it does it is for a short period of time. These days most air-time providers offer insurance to have your cell phone replaced. Also check with your service provider about extending your contract and getting a brand new phone as a result.

Cell Phone - Fun Facts

Here are some fun facts that will help you better understand cell phones and how they work.

1. Cell Phones are radios. They are not phones at all. They depend on line of site radio waves to function. Simply put, if they are not getting a signal from a cell phone (radio) tower, they won't work properly. This explains why they don't work well in structure, like buildings, homes etc. If they do work, this means there is a tower close enough for the cell phone to pick up the signal to work.

2. Motorola developed a type of cell phone used in World War II! You know the phones you see the army guys using to call in bombings or to call for help, while in combat, in movies? These were some of the very first cell phones in existance. They were used in trains, cabs and airplanes. They were all technically radios (see above). Bell Labs submitted a proposal for cell phone technology (as we know it today) in 1971 and the FCC approved the format in 1982! Hooray for beauracracy!

3. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) each regulate wireless telephones. FCC ensures that all wireless phones sold in the United States follow safety guidelines that limit radiofrequency (RF) energy. FDA monitors the health effects of wireless telephones. Each agency has the authority to take action if a wireless phone produces hazardous levels of RF energy.

4. Cell Phone etiquette. Yes, there is such a thing. Use common sense here. Keep you phone off in public places. This includes restuarants, movie theatres, meetings, stores etc. Nobody wants to hear your conversation, it is rude and irresponsible to use your phone in this manner. This includes texting! Please think of others. If you must take the call, put the cell phone on vibrate, and take the call outside.

Is Your Cell Phone Bugged?

How Can I Fix My Cell Phone It Got Wet?

By Gary Gregory

Ever jump into a pool with your phone in your pocket?

I have witnessed this more than once. It is a mistake that almost everyone makes at one point in their life. Cell phone manufacturers have gotten so technologically advanced with their designs that they have made it harder for us to remember that we have a phone on our person.

If you are one of these poor souls and have ruined your cell phone in a body of water, this might be your lucky day. This method has worked some people in the past, but there is no guarantee.

You must first remove the phones battery. Do NOT power the phone on while it is wet. It will only damage the phone more.

How Can I Fix My Cell Phone It Got Wet?

Once the battery is removed the phone needs to be dried out. If the phone was dropped in salt water, the salt water must first be rinsed out and then the phone must be dried out. I recommend using compressed air. If compressed air is not available then grab a hair dryer and use the cool air to blow out as much water as possible.

After you have blown out as much water as you can, place your phone in an oven on 175 F for 4-5 hours. Do this WITHOUT the battery in the phone.

Once your phone is done drying, take it out and replace the dry battery. A brand new battery would be even better. Now charge the phone to get a full charge and then power it on.

This works 90% of the time if you catch the phone before its too late. If not successful, don't worry, you can always buy a new cell phone.

Hi Melanie, thanks for the post. Unfortunately I am not a technician and there could be any number of things wrong with your phone in regards to not being able to hear your ring tones. It may be as simple as something that you can remedy by reading the trouble shooting section of your owners manual to having to replace your phone all together. Please comment as to the make and model of phone that you have and I can see what I can do to get you some technical assistance and/or warranty repair.

How can I fix my cell phone? I dropped it and the screen is all screwy yet after about a month it just corrected itself. Unfortunately, I dropped it again and it's messed up again. It won't move from screen to screen. If I open and close it sometimes it seems to reset itself but that is only per screen. Something seems to be loose inside (me or the phone!) are there any codes I can reset the brain with?
