The kidneys work by effectively removing the majority of waste products from our blood, are vital to our health . We each have two kidneys, which lie on the back wall of abdomen. From the inner side of each kidney a tube called the ureter runs down the abdominal cavity entering the bladder.

Blood is pumped through groups of tiny tubes inside the kidneys, and harmful waste material passes through the wall of these vessels and down to the ureter into the bladder. Here it is ready to be discharged from the body as urine. The kidney also work by producing certain hormones which helps to regulate blood pressure.

If the kidney become diseased and stop working, it is necessary to use kidney machine to remove waste from the blood.

This machine process is called dialysis. It involves pumping blood from a tube in the persons' arm into a thin tubing that runs through a tank of sterile liquid. Waste passes from the blood is returned to the body. This process must be carried out regularly if it is to be successful.

The adrenal gland are attached to the kidneys. They create energy which stimulates the body to prepare it for instant action. Any extreme sport or violent activity, such as bungee jumping, causes a sudden rush of adrenalin.

Hi Len!

As an ex-dialysis and transplant patient I found the article interesting! I just wanted to add that a lot of people also use a catheter in dialsys in addition to using the arm (fistual) method! (I wrote about my dialysis and kidney odyssey in a hub)

Thanks for the Hub!

Thoog.
