I first became interested in making wine several years ago when my uncle began making some very tasty fruit wines. He's the kind of guy who doesn't do anything halfway.

Soon he was growing all kinds of grapes in the garden beside his home. It took a few years for those vines to mature, as I remember it. But when they had started to produce, he had his own little mini-vinyard!

I remember going over and helping him harvest those grapes. By then his wine making had completely taken over the basement. He even had made a little wine cellar beneath the steps.

Every time we would go over and visit, he would insist we take home a few bottles of his homemade wine. It really go out of hand after a while and when anybody came into town they would make sure to visit good old Uncle Dale.

The wines were good, but I think the best part of it all was the social aspect. I loved to hear him tell you all about that bottle of wine he was about to uncork. He'd tell you what "run" it was from and how long it had aged and on and on.
