How To Save On Auto Insurance
50
If you are shopping for auto insurance either to reduce your premium or establish a new policy, here are a number of useful tips that should help you save both time and money.
Use a Comparison ServiceThere are a number of websites who specialize in providing comparative auto insurance quotes. Some of these sites will require you to register with their site in exchange for the competitive quote, but you can usually ask them not to contact you as part of the registration process. Most of the comparison services will allow you to compare coverage from a number of sources so you can quickly select the plan that works for you. There is even one insurance provider Progressive; who will compare their rates to those of competitors to give you the best deal. These services are great because you don't have to go to a bunch of different sites to get comparison quotes. I would however recommend that you go through the process on a couple sites just to make sure you are getting the best deal.
Consider Consolidating Your Policies
Many insurance companies will provide you with discounts and credits if you decide to insure multiple vehicles, boats, or even your home with the same carrier. This can also simplify your life by providing you with a single bill in some cases.
Ask For A Price Break
You don't always have to settle for the current price you are paying. If you find a good deal somewhere, you can contact your current auto insurance carrier and ask them to match or beat the price. If you have been a good customer for many years, chances are good they will be able to accommodate you.
Ask About Special DiscountsMany insurance companies offer special rates and discounts for good drivers, good students, and for taking special driving courses. This can be especially helpful if you have a teenage driver in the family. A good student discount coupled with completing a special safe driving course can lower your rates by up to 40%.
Raise Your Deductible
Your deductible is the amount of money you are required to pay out of pocket when you file an insurance claim. The cost of your policy can be reduced substantially if you raise your deductible from say $250 to $500. Raising your deductible means you are not likely going to file small claims reducing processing costs and saving the insurance company money. They realize this fact and reward you with a lower rate.

Actually, I paid my bill yesterday, after doing some research and I ended up saving about 10%. I suppose it would have helped you more if I had written this hub yesterday ;) Anyway, thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.
Well, it looks like we're a community of bill-paying people :)
Well at least you and I pay our bills. Here in CA they require auto insurance or you can't drive so it's pretty much like death and taxes. I mean, who wants to walk. That's so European.
