Living without food is different for many people because some people eat more than others and all the people in the world have different weights. And if you are talking about going without food and fasting, it is the same way for everybody, different. There were some stories that some prisoners could go without food for as long as two full months. And some stories about people dieing without food after two weeks. It is very hard to tell just by looking at someone. It is obvious that a person with more weight will go longer than a thin person.
Fasting begins farming your body after as little as three days. The fat in your body will begin to decrease in order for you to survive. So, if you are not very fat, you will have less chances of surviving. After all of the fat from the body is gone, then that is when it becomes more serious. There is nothing in your body that will produce energy for you anymore and that is why you will feel very ill and tired. You will start having headaches and will feel very dizzy, which is not a good feeling. If you amino system is not strong enough, you might die right away, but that happens very rarely. So, there is no more energy in your body. All the organs begin to shut down, one by one.
If you are drinking any liquid at all during the fasting time, that will give you some minerals which could give you some more energy to survive. If you don't drink water at all, you will most likely die after a few days or in less than a week. Again, it depends on you shape and body structure.
If you are thinking about fasting, don't do it. Even if you are going on a special diet. The fasting can hurt you very bad inside and you will not notice it until later. You will have very poor organs and might even get cancer. You need food to grow and keep moving.

I’m not sure you know what you’re talking about. No offence you seem to have some knowledge of some basic facts but for the most part it seems you are just giving your opinion. I have read some rather convincing material that says that fasting can be extremely healthy if done wisely. A long fast such as a month or more should not be done lightly (no pun intended) but even then it can greatly help physically, mentally, and spiritually. If you are considering a Fast, learn a bit about it, read good informed sources, and DO IT. Just take care of yourself in the process.
i decided to stop eating for a few days, to lose some weight. will it work? i am going to see how much i lose, and then maybe try to go longer. i am recording measurments of my waist etc. it's hard. i'm drinking so much tea to stop myself from wanting food.
fasting is extremely unhealthy for you now matter how its done. your body needs food and water to survive. for those of you who are fasting to lose weight, try exercise and healthy food. fasting will actually make you more fat because your body goes into starvation mode and starts storing fat to prepare for a leangth of time without food.
It depends which kind of tea you're drinking, green tea contains very little caffeine and lots of antioxidants. Tea with milk and sugar contains calories and fat. Your metabolism slows down when you fast though, so you should eat something every day or you WON'T lose weight. You should also exercise regularly. :}
My mother in Law is an alcoholic & hasnt eaten for 13 days. How long can she survive like this.
well if you don't lose weight without eating, its like failing at failing, if you exercise without eating, u are using energy, that energy must come from somewhere, its the law of nature!!! you cant create energy and "work" from nowhere. sorry but its true.

well i have been on a diet for 2 days now. i drink a glass of milk in the morning and go to school. at second lunch a i eat a fruit salad. when im home i smoke on the roof and that seems to stop me to nibbling on snacks from the kitchen and then i make myself some hot water with lemon and no calorie sweetner.
i go to sleep when people have dinner at about 8:30. This realy seems to be working for me so far and when my driver gave me strawberry milk and a choclate bar i just took it home and put it in the fridge. I wont eat it. Today i even had PE and felt fine... for now.
This is actualy an improvement for me as i used to eat the snacks my driver would buy me and they are very unheatlthy by the way. I used to throw up when i got home and my sister knew and wasnt very pleased.

This is good to know. I have a very busy schedule with college and work, sometimes I only eat once a day. Knowing that I don't have to worry about starvation makes me feel a lot better.

Fasting cleans toxins from your body. As I write this I have been fasting 5 days, am not hungry and am exercising. I have fasted numerous times in the past. The sense of self control is amazing! After my first fast I committed to eat only non-processed healthy food. I am 46 and in best shape of my life. I do no drugs, alcohol, tobacco, caffeine. No white flour, white rice, potatoes.
People that fast only to loose weight will fail. Before embarking on such an endeavor one must research first then make a life changing commitment to alter their eating habits forever.
If you are not prepared to eat healthy for the rest of your life just sit back and pig out.
Healthy Eating is only part of the solution. Exercise is essential. Be careful when beginning an exercise program if you have not exercised in a while. Read up on it or visit with a trainer. Take it slow but keep it up. I do not recommend Running and Jogging.

Water Fasting - that is, taking in NOTHING BUT WATER for a period of time - is VERY HEALTHY. The research backs it. People have reversed cancer and type 2 diabetes by water fasting.
The first 3 days are when digestion stops, and the body shifts over to ketosis aka: burning fat. At this point the body scours itself for dead and diseased tissue and fat to live on. The average person easily live 40 days on water alone. Some have even lived as long as 100 days on water alone. Weight loss is usually between 1-5 pounds per day depending on how fat you are. And no, you DON'T start losing a lot of muscle tissue until the fat stores are used up.
I did it for 5 days and felt GREAT, and kept off the 16 pounds I lost.
Do your research EXTENSIVELY before trying this as it CAN be dangerous under certain circumstances, the idiot that made this post is obviously stupid.
i am fasting since 10 00 ladt night and it is now 3 10 the next day in the afternoon. at school it was hard to not eat but now its not hard when u dont see other people eat. When u fast ur stomach shrinks. ur body eats off the fat stored and when its done eating the stored fast(which is its back up source) it starts to eat muscles and stuff. If you really are fat then i would do it becasue ull be amazed how it works... my dad was in the army and he said they tought him how to survive the best he could without food or water... so iknow and now im trying it out for at least 5 days
Im anorexic and its not so nice.Im getting sick all the time.Sure im very thin but its not nice looking!I look like a twig and trust me you dont get popular by being this thin.If you are thinking of giving up food well listen to my experiance...DONT DO IT! because not only is it bad for you its expensive for all the operations and hospital treaments i need aswell.Just eat healthier and exercise but DONT give up on food!

I just checked out this page to see what people had to say. I haven't eaten in 3 days. Not because I'm fasting or trying to lose weight. I'm in the middle of a very traumatic situation and I can't hold any food down. Now after 3 days I am simply not hungry at all. I have forced myself to drink water today for the simple fact that I do not wish to get sick. I'm wondering how long I can go with just drinking water. Getting to a doctor is impossible for me at the moment. I'm stuck downstairs with no way to leave.

i feel people are not informed as they think the average active person burns about (17*wright= calories/day) and their is about 3500 cals in 1 pound of fat. So if i were a 300lb man i would lose about 1.46 pounds a day. This times lets say 30 days would be 43.80 pounds. This calculation is a average and takes into account that the person doesn't cheat and consumes no cals throughout his or her fasting period. So if u wanna use fasting to hit ur bmi find out ur current bmi/weight ratio which the man above would be 37.5/300 and if his height were 6.3. His mark would be bmi 24.7/198 lbs. (300-198)/1.46=69.87 days to reach desired weight. is this safe, i don't know i dont believe it would be safe but the math speaks for it self. People who follow this method use catabolysis to their atvantage.
I have fasted twice a year for 7 years, my longest being 30 days. This article is completely false and written very poorly. Please don't just throw information out there without any science behind it. My 30 day fast consisted of water for the weekdays and then a very dilutted lemon and orange juice mix, fresh squeezed for the weekends. Oh and yeah that hamburger looks great, better yet just inject lard into your veins. Please people read more articles.
People just dont seem to understand, there is only one way to be healthy and be at your healthy weight,. 1. "Eat healthy" 2. "Exercise" 3. "Sleep 7-8 hours" 4. "Drink lots of water", thats all you have to do.

I want to lose 20 pounds in a month. Is healthy fasting the answer? I have read several controversal documents and papers on fasting, and both sides seem to favor a different outcome. The consequences don't seem fatal or even really serious in MHO, but I'm no health instructor/doctor. Can anyone send me more info? Especially if you have already fasted and have experience. My best friend shot himself on the 15th. When I found out, I puked up what I had just eaten. I have not been able to eat since then & it's the 21st now. It's not that I don't wanna eat, I can't. I'm too depressed. All I've been doing is crying & screaming & asking why. Everything reminds me of him & how he can't even eat anymore, or breathe, or drink water, or do anything at all. I just want him back......

Just eat when you are hungry dammit. I do that all the time but make sure it is healthy. When I am hungry I eat Fiber One bars and Nutra-Grain bars. They are healthy and filling, and most importantly good. I run about 4 to 5 miles every other day and I don't eat huge meals. I usually eat two very small lunchs so 4 meals a day. It works for me. So don't listen to what people say, just try out different methods and what you like best is what you should stick with. And yes my pastor has fasted for 40 days and he is just fine. PS Water Fasting

I've had several friends suffer through eating dosorders and they have caused so many health problems. My friend had her entire digestive system ruined because of her eating disorder. Yes she lost weight, but when she started eating again, she gained weight rapidly and had a lot of trouble digesting food. She now has more health problems such as being lactose intolerant. And it sucks for her, and the sad thing is it hurts so much more than just her. It worried her friends and her family. IT'S NOT WORTH IT PEOPLE.

I am majoring in Psychology, I have spoken with doctors, and I can tell you fasting is not as harmful as everyone makes it sound. If an anorexic trys to go without eating, it is for the wrong reason. If someone is trying to be healthy and trying to change their life, fasting may not be a bad idea. I am on my 3rd day of water only fast. I am not hungry and I cook for my family and I have remarkable energy. I weigh 225lb right now and I am supposed to weigh 132.

Everyone should fast at least once a year, except for those with Type 1 diabetes or other prohibitory health problems.(see anorexic above) A popular preacher, Jentezen Franklin, fasts every year at the beginning of the year & has written a great book about it. Of course, Christians fast for spiritual reasons, as do other religions. Why? It's not only physically cleansing but it also is spiritually invigorating.
I'm starting a fast and because I'm a coffee drinker I know I'm subject to this awful headache for a few days. To remedy the situation, I'll drink green tea and water only & start weaning myself off the green tea as the fast progresses. It is also normal to have bad breath while fasting. This is the toxins leaving your body. If you fast long enough, your entire digestive system will replenish itself and you'll be sporting a brand new stomach lining and a cleansed colon. Don't let anyone lie to you, especially these days. i know what the deal is...ive been trying to get rid of my body fat by working out but it hasnt worked for me... its beacuse i smoke cigarettes and worked out at the same time.... now smokeing cigarettes will slow down your metabolism... your heart beats slowly so u know what that means. ur body dont work hard enough... now if i was to quit my newports my body will react faster then it would if i quit.... just something to think about.. gotta go to class.. and planning on starting on monday
I actually had to live without food and very little water for a month, what happened was i had precancerous conditions in my stomach, and it made me throw up constantly, food or water would cause me to throw up, and even if i had nothing, i would throw up. Also couldn't sleep during that month because I would involuntarily empty my stomach every so often, and the pain was killer. That was an experience I would hope not to repeat.... anyway I did survive, but was weak for a year or so after, could bearly stomach bread and some lettuce for the longest time... now I can eat more or les normally, but it really changed my diet, now mostly i could eat veggies, still can't stomach too much meat.

ive gone 5 days without it and a lot of excercise and little water. lost a lot of weight fast. i live in south florida and its 100 degress out riding my bike 10 miles a day im not sure how i survived. im now going on a scarce diet of no food simply because im without a home and my job only supports my car. to live in. i dont advise this diet

I'ts interesting to hear the varied opinions from varied life experiences. The reality is, you basically hear what you want to hear and base that information as fact. All other mammals fast for different amounts of time for different reasons throughout their lives. Most wild animals fast because thy have no choise; food simply isnt available. Others will fast when ill or injured. Humans normally have a reserved supply of food at their fingertips, and therefore wont fast because they dont have to; lets face it; its uncomfortable to be hungry! If you fast, do it right! Read one of the countless books on the subject and make up your own mind of its value.
