I don't know about you, but I've been dreaming about it for years.

At first it was all a rocket science to me, until I finally gathered my bravery and decided to build my own computer. To make story short, it turned out to be much easier than I have ever thought possible. Computer industry proved to be extremely user friendly when it comes to assembling computer systems. Everything is thought over and with the help of a guidance, you will not be left confused. Building your own computer is really easy and a lot of fun.

So how to build your own computer without sweat and struggle? As you know, emotional tension and anxiety is mainly caused by the unknown. When you divide every part of a seemingly hard process by steps and pieces, there will not left much to be worry about, so now we are going to take the bull by the horns and start off right from selecting a computer type that you plan to build by answering a crucial "what for" question.

Depending on your answer you will know whether it's going to be:

• a cheaper, but less powerful office computer for work,
• advanced gaming and video-editing home system requiring ultimate video card performance or
• a server computer with with an emphasis on multi CPUs power and interconnected Hard Drives array, called RAID, for extra data transfer speed and security.

Obviously that if you build your own computer for work and your main activity is surfing the net or typing text and emails, then you don't have to cash out extra $600 for two video cards operating in a dual mode for top video processing speed. In this case a simple office-type computer is more than enough for such tasks. You will even be able to play simple games, including all the popular casual games without glitches or frozen computers.

If you are a hardcore gamer, looking for maximum Frames Per Second ratios only and get frustrated each time your FPS are falling below a 50 mark or when your video card fails to produce a real-life video quality of armada of hyperspace aliens in your favorite computer game, then your slogan is unprecedented video power always cannot be enough. In this case pay special attention to the video cards, you will probably need two of them to work simultaneously together in a so-called SLI mode for nVidia video cards or Cross-Fire mode for ATI cards. You secondary by importance selections are mother board, memory and CPUs, so they won't be a bottle neck for your gaming desktop PC. The only downside of such systems is price, which can reach anywhere from 2 to 5 times of a standard office computer price.

Computer servers are mainstream machines always turned on for running 'heavy' by resources usage applications, online services or servicing as a companies databases storages etc. Their specialty is advanced multi-tasking and stability. When building a server pay special attention to CPUs, motherboard, memory capacity, reliability and performance of hard drives and cooling. Video power of a server, except for specialized gaming servers, doesn't play any role, unless negatively effect overall server performance or stability.

So you have it. Three most common types of a PC system to choose from. Decide on which type is more appealing to your, your tasks, fits your budget and lets move on.

When I dreamed about my home computer, I knew from the very beginning that it should be an advanced gaming system. No compromises. And as a future computer geek I highly recommend you to choose the same route, unless you are planning to launch some mega online network for computer geeks in which case multi-processor computer server is almost inevitable requirement.
