Diamond are graded according to weight, clarity, color, and cut. The weight of the diamond is measured by the carat. The clarity of a diamond can be lessened by different kinds of flaws.
Flaws in the Diamond :
- Small cracks which jewelers sometimes call feathers.
- Small bubbles
- Inclusion (other substances enclosed in the crystals).
The best quality diamonds and the most valuable ones are completely colorless. Very few diamonds reach this standard. Many diamonds have a yellowish shade.
Different colors of Diamond : Black, Blue, Brown, Green, Pink, Purple, Red
Red is the rarest color in natural diamond. The way diamond is cut affect its value because a stone that is not properly proportioned lack the brilliance of a well cut stone.
A flawless diamonds no physical defect, like scratches, inclusion, crack, blemishes or cloudy appearance. But flawless diamond may not be colorless. Most people consider a diamond to be perfect if it is colorless as well as flawless, has high clarity and is perfectly cut. When buying diamond, the buyer should seek the advice of a reliable dealer.
The size of diamond is determined by its weight in carats. One carat equals 200 milligrams.
