Attracting visitors to your site is just one part of building up your prospective customer list, and once they've arrived, your goal is to keep them there as long as possible. Building loyal readers is an essential part of high-traffic websites today, and with the growth of RSS readers and blogs, it's even more important to provide something of high quality and high value.

Developing quality content for your website is an important phase of building your internet presence, and may require some help from web writers and editors. Copywriting can be challenging, especially since writing for the web is very different from standard print materials. Even if you're simply translating your brochure or marketing materials into a website, you'll need a creative strategy to really make your content stand apart from the competition. Here are some tips on developing quality content for your website:

1. Make it exclusively yours. Don't plagiarize or copy content from other sites (unless you are giving credit appropriately). Not only is this unethical, but it will limit your chances of quality search engine placement as you go forward. Intellectual property violations can cost you in fees and damages, so it's best to make sure all of your material is fresh and completely original.

2. Find out what your target market is already talking about. Take part in discussion forums, read blogs, and even look on Yahoo! Answers for ideas on what your market is hungry for. These are all great resources for generating new ideas for your website, and can help you design articles and posts that are relevant and helpful to your industry.

3. Do your homework! If you're explaining a new concept or idea, don't be afraid to visit the library or review research material. You can provide much more accurate and well-written articles by doing research from at least 2-3 sources.

4. Use free articles databases for ideas only. These are generally poorly written pieces, but the headlines and basic ideas can help you brainstorm your own for a creative spin. Take a look at content sites such as EzineArticles and ArticlesDatabase.com for ideas on getting started.

5. Use a Q&A formula. Posing a question and suggesting the answer lays a solid foundation for a quality article. Think of different questions that your prospective customers may have on an issue, and address each one with a relevant article and thorough answer. This also works well for an FAQ section; they're easy to read and can quickly get to the point.

6. Use humor. Engaging your readers with quality content is an essential step to keeping them interested, and a dose of humor here and there is much more likely to bring them back. Look at humorous blogs and posts in your industry for ideas, and even consider linking up to something interesting you've found. Variety is essential to keeping your website up to date, so be sure to try different styles and voices if needed to mix things up.

7. Use pictures. Screenshots and embedded videos are great for supplementing your content, and inserting media files can help you explain a concept or idea more persuasively. Consider running a series so that visitors will keep coming back to your site; you can do this once or twice per month to pique their interest.

Keeping visitors interested-and coming back to your website-are critical for long-term success on the internet. Make sure you content is free of errors and offers something completely unique; making use of today's media tools is another way to start attracting an entirely new audience.

Hi Sabah!

Great post!

I've just created my very first hub... actually about unique content!

There's a brand new original content tool coming out in the next few weeks and it is in a league of its own!

Check my hub out if you have a free moment... it's my attempt to be humourous about it! =0>

Best wishes

Lewis
