Besides playing games, your Sony PlayStation Portable can let you listen to music and watch movies.

Your PSP may only play songs that are in MP3 file format, so that is the first step you need to take. Download the MP3 songs you want off the Internet or rip them from your CDs.

If you haven't one already in your computer, get a CD Ripper program to extract the digital music files from your CD. Place the CD in the correct computer drive and your CD Ripper program should start up automatically. Rip the CD tracks you want and then copy the MP3 music files into a separate folder, called ‘PSP Music' or something like that. Remember what drive that folder is saved in (e.g. D: or E: drive, etc.). If you need to convert the music files to MP3, use a converter program like Sony's Image Converter, etc. If you have the latest PSP, some other file formats may be used directly without being converted to MP3.

Now you need to copy these music files to your PSP. Plug a USB 2.0 cable into both the PSP and your computer. Switch on the PSP and press the ‘Home' button. Go to ‘Settings' and then the ‘USB Connection', pressing the X button to display the USB Connection. Once the USB Connection has been activated, the computer will also detect the new USB device.

On your computer, select the correct drive and then open the PSP file system. Create a new folder and name it. From your computer, copy all the saved MP3 files into the new PSP folder. Once all the music files have been copied, press the O button on the PSP and disconnect the USB cable.

There is an even better way to download music and put it on your PSP and that is by using the easy-to-use PSP Download Center software. This program will give you simple step-by-step instructions to download music to your computer and transfer them to the PSP. The method is very similar to downloading music to your PSP. You will need a USB cable and a memory stick. Try and get the largest memory stick you can afford, preferably a 1GB or 2GB as movies take up a lot of memory. Format the memory stick before you attempt to download movies to you PSP or this procedure will not work. Remember only to download movies that belong to you or you've downloaded from a legitimate Download Site - don't copy pirated movies as that is illegal and also because many contain viruses that can damage your computer or PSP.

1. Connect your PSP to your computer with the USB cable. On the PSP, using the navigation button, select the settings menu and scroll down until you see "USB connection" and press X. The computer should recognize the PSP as a new drive. It usually shows up as E: or F:.

2. Select the PSP memory card and navigate to the folder called PSP. Create a folder inside this one and name it "MP_ROOT". Inside this folder create another one called "100MNV01".

3. Copy the movies from your computer to the "100MNV01" folder on the PSP. It is very important that you download your movies to this folder on the PSP or it will not be able to play them.

4. To watch your movies navigate to the "Video" section of your PSP, select the movie you want to watch and press X. There you are - nice and easy!
