Searching for the Free Publicity to Build Business Awareness
The thing that all start-up businesses would need would be advertising and promotional endeavors that will help build awareness for its existence and inception. Practically all business leaders would die to know, how in the world they can get free exposure and gain the necessary publicity that helps builds empires and establishes corporate reliability and efficiency today to answer the call of consumer demands.
There are small scale alternatives to which organizational leaders can resort to. At the top of the list is that of the Internet. It has been proven that web presence is a good investment since its catchments area is wondrous considering it reaches the whole world. While there are Internet marketing techniques available for use, any person can simply research and study the known practices of making their business known over the web and the rest will fall into place naturally.
In the real world, there is always the usual word of mouth practice where friends and acquaintances would be the initial customers to expect. These in turn will pass it on, forming a chain to which will go on and on towards friend's friends as well. A wide group of friends offers better potential since this proves that a wider network would most likely return a wider possibility of awareness for the business at hand.
Newspapers, magazines and tabloids also offer free posts occasionally, but this would be at the least priority of providing the necessary exposure. But as long as it does not need to be settled in any financial or trade aspect, it is a good alternative to try out.
Radio advertisement offers the same scenario, but usually on a one time basis only. While it may not help that much with regards to the expected turnout, starting a buzz may eventually become a good way to start a business awareness campaign.
Making own flyers and leaflets and placing them in public places such as open parking lots or handing them out in malls to people who pass by is a good way to start building awareness as well. Although it may resort to littering as people would simply read and throw away the materials, starting to implant the company name and its line of specialty in their minds is a good way to contribute to the whole publicity campaign.
Telemarketing is another good way of trying to build awareness, depending on the line of business. Using phone directories or unsolicited numbers and doing the preliminary research and interviews is a good way to help offer and build corporate existence. But the practice should be done properly since it would be best not to irritate people who may not be too fond of being endorsed services over the phone.

how can i get my pet sitting service business up and running fast?
Brian,
You obviously put a lot of work into your Hub page and the information is very helpful. I'd like to add that writing and posting articles to drive targeted niche traffic will help to further leverage the Internet for small businesses. There is Private Label Rights (PLR) articles available that can be rewritten and posted about their business.
I do offer a free e-book to help those who find writing a challenge to avoid Google's duplicate content penalties.

All the best,

Word of mouth is still effective as people are typically small-business friendly. They believe they're helping out the "little guy". Also, if you know someone with an already-established business, they'll typically offer some help in the form of recipricol advertising.
