How to Get Rid of Warts Using Duct Tape

Okay, you've heard of some crazy home remedies before on how to get rid of warts, but duct tape? Yes, it's true... some people swear by it, others think it's pure quackery. I've never tried it, but a friend of mine told me his grandmother swears by it.

I did some investigating to see what the "experts" in the medical community were saying about this supposed cure. Here's some of the interesting stuff I found:

In 2002 CBS did a report in which they cited a study from the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. The researchers stated that

"over-the-hardware-counter duct tape is a more effective, less painful alternative to liquid nitrogen, which is used to freeze warts. In the study, patients wore duct tape over their warts for six days. Then they removed the tape, soaked the area in water and used an emery board or pumice stone to scrape the spot. The tape was reapplied the next morning. The treatment continued for a maximum of two months or until the wart went away."

Researcher, Dr. Dean Focht III, of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center believes the reason the duct tape works is because "the duct tape irritated the warts, and that apparently caused an immune system reaction that attacked the growths."

So, apparently there is medical evidence supporting this cure for warts.

I wish I heard about this treatment 25 years ago when I had a planter's wart that had to be surgically removed.

I always wonder who comes up with home remedies like this. I mean, if I was trying to figure out how to get rid of warts I definitely don't think duct tape would be on my list of possible solutions. Amazing...

I put a banana peel on a wart on my daughters hand and taped it on with tape..maybe duct tape. Took the peel off in 2 days and the wart was gone.

Duct tape is great when it works - tho it doesn't seem to work for everyone unfortunately. If you've really got a stubburn wart use a specially prepared oil I say - not that ineffective rubbish sold a local chain drub stores.

Jeff
