How to Make Air Travel Easy
63If you are a frequent traveller below are the tips to make your air travel easy:
- Take early morning or late night flights as day time flights often get delayed, in addition late night flights may also be less expensive.
- If you are going for a meeting, go one day before you must arrive as flights sometimes get cancelled or badly delayed due to bad weather conditions. Further more you may also get bumped in such conditions.
- Keep your travel agent's phone number handy. If your flight is canceled, call the agent to rebook you, rather than standing in line with angry masses.
- Get a copy of the month's Official Airlines Guide to help reschedule flights if necessary.
- If you arrive at the airport early, try to get on an earlier flight.
- Board the plane as soon as possible. It is easier to find storage space for your carry-on bags, as well as a pillow and a blanket.
- Sit in front of the plane, so you will be able to get off the plane first.
- If you are right handed, sit on the right side of the plane. That way, people passing won't jiggle your arm when you work or eat.
- If you plan to sleep on the plane, get a window seat so other passengers won't crawl over you to get out.
- Ask for a seat in the exit row to get more legroom.
- Carry foam ear plugs if you fly on a small plane or if you want to sleep on the plane.
- Join the airline's frequent flier clubs. You may be able to board earlier and get special perquisites. Use one airline and its affiliated hotel and car rental companies as much as possible to maximize benefits. You may also join the airline's airport club to get relaxation between flights.
- Try not to check luggage, if at all possible. Use a carry-on bag with wheels and, if necessary, a garment bag that clips onto it.
- Dress comfortably for the flight.
- Pack a snack and a small bottle of water. Many airlines no longer offer meals, and flight delays often prevent travellers from eating between flights.
- Order special meals, such as vegetarian, if meals are served on the flights, as they are fresher than other meals.
- Do neck stretch, shoulder stretch, arm isometrics, lower-back stretch, leg/foot stretch and other simple exercises on the airplane.
- Use the airplane restroom before landing. This may save up to 20 minutes on the ground if you are first to the taxis or car rental counters.
- Use a skycap to avoid taxi lines. A small tip can save lots of time.
