66I love this time of the year. The holidays are quickly approaching, and the food and drink will be flowing freely. This is why I need to be extra diligent to keep my metabolism up so I can avoid unwanted weight gain. I remember a few years back, the holidays were a little too merry and I wound up gaining about 8 pounds. I had to learn how to boost my metabolism and want to share with you what I learned below.
If you'd like to learn how to boost your metabolism, you may be happy to know it's not overly difficult to do. Most people want to boost their metabolism in order to help lose weight and lose excess body fat. Sometimes people want to learn how to boost their metabolism though, so they can simply have more energy during the day. Regardless of why you want to learn how to boost your metabolism though, we'll look at several ways this can be done.
Boosting Your Metabolism is Easy
Boosting your metabolism is one of the best ways to lose weight, and it's particularly useful for burning extra body fat. Boosing your metabolism also gives you lots of extra energy though, so you can do more throughtout the day without feeling tired, dull, or lethargic. The three primary ways to boost your metabolism are done with foods you eat, herbal or vitamin supplements, and exercise or activity. Let's look at all three methods.
How to Boost Metabolism with Food
Eating certain types of foods is one of the easiest ways to boost your metabolism, but many people aren't even aware this can be done. There are in fact though, many foods which make your body work harder to digest them. And the more your body has to work in digesting those foods, the more of a boost your metabolism can get.
Eating raw foods particularly, high fiber foods and often high protein foods can make your body worker harder to digest them. In some cases there are even foods you can eat which will burn more calories digesting them, than you got by eating the foods to begin with. These are sometimes referred to as negative calorie foods. Raw broccoli for instance, takes more energy to break down, digest, and extract vitamins and nutrients from than it actually gives you when you eat it.
How to Boost Metabolism with Supplements
There are also many natural herbs and vitamin supplements which can help boost your metabolism. Kelp is an herb for instance, that helps regulate your thyroid, and the thyroid is what regulates your body's metabolism. So if it's not working at full capacity, your metabolism might be lower than it could be. Cayenne is another herb which will help boost your metabolism and give you energy too.
How to Boost Metabolism with Exercise
By far, the best way to boost your metabolism is to exercise. Specifically toning and building your muscles will help boost your metabolism, because muscles require more energy for your body to maintain than fat does. Those toned, firmer, stronger and bigger muscles actually force your body to burn more calories.
The added activity encountered during exercises also naturally causes your body to boost metabolism so it can keep up. Once you start exercising, your body automatically reacts as if you'll always need that extra energy, so it starts supplying it to you. One of the best types of exercise you can do to boost your metabolism quickly is known as interval training. This type of exercise involves doing a brief but intense movement of some kind such as sprinting fast for thirty seconds, followed by a slightly longer period of more moderate paced movements such as walking for two or three minutes. Some of the best ways to get interval training into your daily routine naturally is to simply play sports. Basketball, baseball, tennis, raquetball - these are all examples of sports based interval training, because the simple act of playing the game is a combination of quick bursts and smaller more moderate movements.
