How to Get Hair Shiny

Everyone wants to know how to make hair shiny. Shiny hair symbolizes beauty, health, youth, and vitality. Some people are luckier than others when it comes to shiny hair. Smooth hair is shiny and curly hair will not be very shiny at all because the light doesn't bounce off of it. Asians have the shiniest hair, and their hair is usually very straight and fine. If you weren't born with straight, silky hair, there are a few tricks for shiny hair.

Proper Care Is Necessary to Get Smooth and Shiny Hair

If you want to know how to make hair shiny, start with taking care of your hair properly. That old wives' tale about brushing your hair 100 strokes every night definitely should not be obeyed. This will damage your hair for sure.

One of the best tricks for shiny hair is a natural boar bristle brush. It is very gentle on hair and will help distribute natural oils throughout your hair to get smooth and shiny hair. And never brush your hair while it's wet! This will not make hair shiny, but cause your hair to break. Hair breakage causes damage and frizzy hair.

The correct way to comb hair to avoid breakage is to start at the bottom and work your way up, getting any tangles as you go. Never start brushing your hair at the top and go down. This will cause tangles to be brought together at the bottom of your hair. You will end up with knots and end up tearing out your hair literally. You should use a conditioner, especially if you have problems with tangles.

Try to give your hair a break once in awhile from heat appliances. Let hair air dry, put it up, or use old-fashioned curlers for a different voluminous or curly look every so often. Heat appliances can do great damage to your hair, preventing that shiny hair you so desire.

How to Make Hair Shiny with a Proper Diet

Some other tricks for shiny hair include a healthy diet and lifestyle. Diet is very important if you want to learn how to make hair shiny. Hair is basically dead protein. Some people argue that because of this, it doesn't matter what you eat to keep your hair healthy. This is untrue. Even though hair is dead, it still is derived from nutrients that growing hair needs, the same as fingernails.

The most important elements of your diet to get smooth and shiny hair should include protein, of course. Dark green vegetables and fresh fruits are also needed to make hair shiny. Dark green vegetables help contribute iron and vitamin E needed for healthy, shiny hair.

Fish is very beneficial to help make hair shiny. Fish has lots of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids. Very few foods contain these, and fish is one of the best sources. These essential fatty acids help get smooth and shiny hair. If you don't eat much fish, you should consider taking fish oil capsules to make hair shiny. This is one of the best tricks for shiny hair, but is also excellent for your overall health.

One of the Best and Easiest Tricks for Shiny Hair

One of the simplest and cheapest tricks for shiny hair is good old-fashioned water. Drink lots of water to get smooth and shiny hair. If you don't drink enough water, you will become dehydrated. Your body is going to deplete hair of moisture first, as it is not vital to your health. This will cause dry, coarse, brittle, easily damaged hair- the exact opposite of how to make hair shiny.

Avoid These If You Want to Get Smooth and Shiny Hair

Smoking is the death not only of you, but of your hair as well. If you want to get smooth and shiny hair, you need to quit smoking if you do. Too much caffeine can also prevent shiny hair.

More Tricks for Shiny Hair

Sometimes dull hair is caused by buildup of hair products. At least once a month, use a clarifying shampoo to remove these hair products and help make hair shiny.

A simple trick for shiny hair is to always rinse your hair in cold water last to get hair smooth and shiny. This will cause the outside hair covering, called the cuticle, to lie flat and smooth. This in turn will reflect light and help make hair shiny and healthy looking.

Shiny Hair and Curls Do Not Mix

If your hair is curly, you will probably need a little extra help when learning how to make hair shiny. This is because curly hair doesn't have smooth cuticles. And curly hair is by nature usually dry.

Try hair shine products and anti-frizz hair products until you find one that will make hair shiny. They are truly great tricks for shiny hair. There are some fantastic ones on the market, but it really is trial and error, depending on your hair and your own preferences.

And remember, less is more. You don't want the products to build up and cause dullness.

Shiny Hair Using Natural Products

If you want shiny hair using natural products, henna is one of the best tricks for shiny hair ever. Henna actually improves hair's health as well as make hair shiny. Because it coats the hair shaft instead of penetrating it like commercial haircoloring products, your hair will feel thicker as well. And henna will gradually wash away. It doesn't leave that tacky look that a person gets when their colored hair starts growing out.

Be warned, though. Henna is messy and smells terrible. It will stain anything it touches, not just your hair. It also will only color hair a reddish shade, if it is authentic henna. Henna can't be used over commercial hair coloring products. But if you want a natural product that doesn't damage hair and that will make hair shiny, henna is the ticket.

Learning How to Make Hair Shiny Is Easy, but Takes Time

Shiny hair doesn't appear naturally overnight. Only hair products can do that. If you want truly healthy hair that is shiny, you must eat properly. A healthy lifestyle will also contribute to healthy, shiny hair. Just like the rest of your body, healthy hair depends on healthy habits. Give it awhile to see results- at least a couple of months.

Huh! I used to have a boar bristle brush but I thought it just did a good job of getting out knots, not that it also made my hair shiny!

I like the use of natural products. I don't have to worry of side effects but the negative side for that is the smell like the hena. I agree of what you said, it smells terrible. lol!.. Nice hub! Love your tips. Keep up the good work.

I dream of shiny hair and I suppose I do have it - sort of. My hair is very healthy but my hairs are so thick, curly and course that they nearly make noise as they hit the ground. Guess I'll keep dreaming. Good hub!

These really are good tips. I have one for all those girls out there that do have curly hair, since it really is harder to get our shine on. If you blow-dry/diffuse your hair, don't use it until your hair is completely dry. The curl will be less frizzy and more defined if you stop while your hair is just slightly damp. (you'll get the hang of it) It will also be shinier for longer that way.

As a healthy person, I agree with your hydration and healthy food tips, but as a woman, I found out another easy way to shine, shine, shine. That's with a flat iron like the curling iron. About $30 and every time I use it, it's fantastic and so eay to use.

Thanks,

To thicken and moisturize your hair, and give it a healthy shine:Puree in your blender:1 egg yolk1/4 cup coconut oil1/4 cup whole milk4 tbsp. aloe vera gel and4 fresh strawberriesApply the mixture to damp, towel-dried hair. For best results, start at the roots and comb through to the end of the hair.Place a shower cap or warm towel over your hair for 15 to 30 minutes.Shampoo and rinse until the water runs clear.

One of the reasons indians have such great hair can be attributed to the coconut oil in their diets. Coconut oil is a great hair treatment and very healthy in many other ways. try search google under "Coconut Oil Benefits". Do be wary though for Gout Sufferers. A increase in Coconut oil can trigger Gout.

I think it would be appropriate to mention that dietary effects on hair only affect new growth. So it may take a couple of years to see significant effects of diet on the quality of your hair. Oh yes, and you would have to maintain your diet for the whole time.

Personally, I would love to have more shiny hair, but it seems impossible to reverse the dietary habits of a lifetime - just impossible.

Yes indeed to not combing or brushing wet hair - yes to extended periods of conditioner application - yes to high quality washing and conditioning products - yes to washing at least three times a week - NO to warm blowing until my hair has become nearly dry . That all helps to make my hair as shiny and healthy as possible.

It is hard to maintain healthy hair and not over shower (if only showers didnt feel so good : ) I do agree that natural products are the way to go. A lot of the expensive stuff has so many additives it depletes the natural oils so you body over produces them and you are stuck with a greasey look...ew. very nice read. sweet and to the point.

I actually don't like this advice. It leaves me feeling like, so what? Who cares what you think? No offense, but I have curly hair, and it is very smooth. You say curly hair can't be shiny, you should see my hair in the sun. Listen, you need to get some facts straight if your going to give people advice. And, don't comment on anything I say. Honestly I don't care what anyone thinks about my opinions, or whether you like them or not.
