Hollywood Looks, Indian Flair

Hrithik Roshan, a Bollywood superstarsmart, is sexy, an incredible dancer, kind, and has those big beautiful brown eyes. Okay, I have a crush on him, just a little. [smile]

Born 10 January 1974, Hrithik comes froma movie-making family. he started his movie career as a dance extra at the age of six. Much more detailed information about him can be found at this wikipedia entry.

Don't take how fabulous he is from me. Take it from his fans in India. He's won 5 Filmfare awards by the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards, in India, similar to the Oscars awarded in the United States, except that viewers choose the award winners instead of the award winners being chosen by the filmmaking community. One Filmfare award was for Best Male Debut, and four were for Best Actor.

Hrithik's Many Fans

In my research, I have found many fan sites for Hrithik Roshan. Enjoy!

Hrithik's Selected Filmography

I have seen three of Hrithik's films in which he plays a major role. Wikipedia lists all his films here.

The first one I saw, Dhoom 2, (an iMdb link) was a fun heist story, with a cop and his funny sidekick chasing after the international and mysterious thief, played by Hrithik. Hrithik is so very sexy, the opening dance number is beautifully choreographed and shot, and all the men and women in this film are beautiful to look at. As my first Bollywood film, I was very impressed. Both by the filming, and the intriguing and multi-faceted characters

As a Westerner, I was struck by several things. This was my first Bollywood film, so I was analyzing the differences between it and many American actions films. First off, I noticed that as much time is spent going into the life of the cop as the thief he's after. In fact, I was shocked to see how much compassion and care we develop for Hrithk's character. It's as if this film had two main characters, the villain and the cop, and I wanted both to get what they wanted. This is in contrast to many American films of the same type, like Inside Man (2006), or The Italian Job (2003), where we are mostly lead to care about the theives and want them to get away, and the cop not to get his man.

The second thing I was struck by, and impressed with, was the exuberant dancing, sexy, well-choreographed, and to my greatest pleasure, well-filmed. In contrast to many American dance movies, I never wished for the camera to stay still so i could just eat up with my eyes the main dancer or dancers. Indian filmmakers already know how to rest the cameria long enough so we can enjoy all aspects of the dance, from the group symetry, to the dancer's facial expressions, and gorgeous body. Kudos! I am now quite a fan of Bollywood. Just watching the dance numbers always makes me happy.

Of Hrithik's other films, I've seen Koi...Mil Gaya (2003), and Mission Kashmir (2000). Both enjoyable in their own way, though Mission Kashmir was upsetting for its clear-eyed approach to the current tensions in Kashmir. The film was a cry of pain and a wish for peace, done in a way that didn't shy from the brutal truth of the conflict in kashmir, that many innocent people die while the men with guns battle it out.

Hrithik has also done many commericials. A browse through YouTube will uncover them. I may post a list of them in another hub post.
