Louisiana is divided into 8 major Statistical Areas surrounding 8 of its major cities: New Orleans, Houma, Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Shreveport, Alexandria, and Monroe (Monroe-West Monroe twin Cities).

All of these metro areas contain more than one parish (county) and all are in a stage of economic growth to the extent that abundant numbers of jobs are available through at least 2014 because of new job openings created by new businesses and expanding current companies.

Medical and Healthcare related occupations will continue to expand through at least 2100, because the Millennial Generation born from roughly 1980 - 2000 is nearly as large as the Baby Boom Generation, creating a reiterative cycle of older Americans requiring even longer-term healthcare. The is because not only are the Millennials taller and healthy in many respects than Boomers at the same age (especially the women), they will live longer -- More will achieve the officially designated Oldest Old age of 80 - 100+.

One of the occupations that is increasing in a large percentage of job openings in western Louisiana is hunting and trapping, although the actual numbers are relatively small. Each of the western metro areas and some of the others estimate that they will each need 20 additional trappers by 2014.

Native Americans migrated from northern Asiatic countries to North America around 12,000 years ago or earlier. Although some archaeological evidence has shown Indigenous peoples in North America much earlier, blood typologies and DNA examination confirms the migration of around 10,000 BC.

From Alaska and the Pacific Northwest of Canada and America, the nomadic peoples spread eastward and southward until the Spanish and British as well as other European explores drove them back Westward and to the South, and Southwest of what is now USA. Some Canadian First Nations peoples eventually made it all the way to Iceland.

Some remnant bands of original nations of the Indigenous remain in Louisiana, as listed in Top 10 Jobs in Louisiana, along with their businesses.

In addition, the Acadians of Nova Scotia (Acadie), Canada were also driven southward and eventually made homes largely in 22 parishes (counties) of southern Louisiana in what is today known as Acadiana, a name bestowed on the region in the 1960s. These residents are our Cajuns.

Cajun Cuisine in the Acadiana Region of Louisiana and the Origins of the People in Acadie

According to research and genealogical records examined by members of CODOFIL Louisiana-French preservationists in Lafayette, La Cadie was founded in 1605 by the French and renamed Acadie in Nova Scotia. By 1699, the first permanent French settlement in Louisiana was initiated. IN 1713, Acadie was ceded to Great Britain and in 1755, the British governor expelled the Acadians and renamed their land Nova Scotia (New Scotland).

Acadians don't actually show up in Louisiana public records until 1764 and some of them kept fighting the British in Nova Scotia until they finally gave up and left, may arrive in LA in 1864 (See Cajun Easter Foods link below for the history). Other French people came directly from France after that time. Overal, during the 70 years 1721 - 1791, peoples of many nations arrived in Louisiana, many in the Lafayette area. They intermarried among themselves and with Native Americans, creating Creole and Metis peoples together with a rich combined culture that is receiving global recognition.
