HubMob Weekly Topic : Weddings - Half the time lead to Divorce!
57This hub is a bit of an experiment, for those hubbers who now and then lament on the forums that we have no way to link already published hubs to new requests.
The experiment is not pure by far, because I'm commenting a bit, might even ramble enough so that this hub is not penalized for being too short by hubpage standards. And the links I'm about to provide might not be as directly related to the request as they could be.
I feel compelled to encourage those considering a wedding to also make note of the fact that (in the US at least), 50% of you are likely to someday need a divorce celebration, and you are probably not going to be able to afford to make it as spectacular as your wedding.
And it's a shame. Because divorce can be as life-changing and, in some cases, even more positive, than your wedding.
I'm really not trying to put a damper on your plans, or discourage you from getting married. But know what you are getting into. A wedding lasts a few hours. Most of us hope a marriage will last a lifetime. Sadly, it just ain't so.

Divorce Advice from dineane
My focus is generally to make the best of divorce. I also encourage married folk to try to save their marriages instead of bailing out too quickly. Here are links to some of my articles on hubpages, to prove to you that I'm not trying to scare you out of it. I believe people survive divorce and learn important lessons from the experience. Go ahead, get married. You might learn a lot about yourself!
First, maybe you are on the receiving end of unwanted news. My Spouse Wants a Divorce: Now What? might help you save your marriage.
Whether it works or not, you might need help talking about it to the kids. Either way, Should You Tell Your Kids That Your Spouse Cheated? Heck NO!
What if there is nothing you can do to save your marriage? Check out Is Divorce Bad? Response to "No Divorce Please" in the Hubpages Family Forum for some non-judgemental observations.
And finally, it occurs to me Gifts for the Recently Separated or Divorced would probably make nice wedding presents, too!
Who the heck is dineane, anyway? Well, in addition to being divorced once and almost divorced another time, I have been assistant organizer for a local divorce/separated support group for the last three years, and I blog about marriage and divorce issues. I'm just offering my personal observations - no professional certifications in this area or anything like that.

Triplet Mom, I've actually been to a few 'divorce parties', and they are almost as fun as weddings! Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for bringing a different angle to the Wedding HubMob. Personally, I had a very small and simple wedding but my marriage has lasted longer than those of friends and relatives who had incredibly big and onerous marriages!
Thanks, Princessa! I'm a fan of simple weddings, myself, too.

Dineane - Great perspective. I have to agree that most spend their time focusing on the wedding and not as much effort is put into the marriage. Maybe there should be a divorce party for some so that they can celebrate a huge change in their life.
