Why are You Reading This?

Why are people so addicted to reading what other people have to write? How is HubPages slowly becoming a get away from real life? While I am a new hubber, I am slowly gettting to be what is called a HubPage addict. I wake up in the morning and I have to see how my page is doing, I get home from work and immediately get on the computer to see my stats. I check out all of the fans I have gotten to see what they have written. And I look at the forums to see if something of interest has been posted.

I cannot stop! Help!

Tip 1 - Back Away from the Computer

One of the easiest things to accomplish is pushing yourself away from your compurter.  If you are not connected to your computer, you will be unable to read or write any articles until you get pulled back in by mental gravity.  Walk away, back up, or slam the door to your home office and say to yourself I can do something else.

If this subtle technique does not work to alleviate the need to be at the computer, you might have to try something more drastic.  You might have to cause some slight damage to your computer so that it makes you feel guilty about using it.  If you are ashamed that you hurt your computer it will leave you with a feeling of remorse that could help you stay away.

This Could Be You

Those Annoying People at Your Door are Your Friends

While it might seem like they are bothering you, those people that keep stopping by to see you are concerned. They have not seen you for over a week and are wondering if you will ever snap out of it. Now I know what you are going to say. And yes, they just might have something as interesting as Hubpages to talk about. They actually might do more than just leaving a comment on your article. They were already a part of your fan club and they will probably be once you break away.

What you need to do, and no I do not mean make them an addict as well, is take a break from the pages for an afternoon and hang out with them. You know what that is like. You use to do it before you found HubPages. At first, take little steps towards the door saying to yourself it might be fun. Once you get to the door, run out of it and yell as loud as you can "I did it, I am a HubPages survivor".

Are You Seriously Still Reading This!

If you are still reading this article, than your problem might be more serious than first thought.  I mean come on, really.  I am just some guy sitting at a computer typing away like a madman saying whatever comes to mind.  The children sitting on the couch in your living room have not had a conversation with you in sometime.  Take a break and interact with them for a change.

While I am not claiming that everyone on here is neglecting their family, I am saying that everyone on here is addicted in some way, shape, or form including myself.  For example, my kids are in the room watching T.V. and I am sitting in the living room acting like I do not want to be bothered.  I am an addict.

The Sun is Not Going to Melt You

Outdoor activities can be fun.  While I know that it is hot outside, especially here in the desert, you can still have fun with some outdoor activities.  You might try and go to the pool.  You can take a walk in the mall, although stay away from any technological store. (You might be able to get free internet)

While I know that the mall is indoors, I am not that far gone yet, technically you still have to leave your computer in order to get there.  Unless you have a wireless notebook with mobile internet it might afford you the oppurtunirty for a break.

For those that have mobile wireless capabilities, I don't know what to tell you.  I think you are too far gone and the next step for you is to have the pages downloaded into your head like the Matrix.  You than could digest all of the new articles in a nannosecond and literaly be able to unplug once you are done.

I Guess if You Build They Will Come

Here we are at the end of the article, and if you are reading this paragraph I am at a loss as to how to help you with your problem.  I understand your pain seeing as how I am the one writing the article and chained to my keyboard unable to stop typing.  What we will have to do is keep engaging in forums and HubPage reading until someone finds a real cure to our disease.

For now though, I might begin typing my next Hub.  Happy Hubbing!

ha. Love this! I am a fellow addict myself. It's so easy to get caught up with other peoples writings. Great hub!
