What we set out to do

We set out to make a platform for topic experts that would allow them to do three things very well. First, to easily create rich web pages. Second, to drive traffic to the pages via search engines through search engine optimization technology. Third, to let publishers share in the rewards.

I thought you would enjoy a post on how we are doing and what we have learned.

How many pages have been made?

We have seen over 4,750 pages created and published using our tools. The number of pages created per day has been steadily rising. My opinion is there is a lot of innovation and opportunity to improve publishing platforms for the future. Improving the tool's usability, ease, and powers remains important to our success.

Traffic

It took four months to pass the traffic levels generated by our launch. The majority of the early traffic was a spike from Techcrunch and Siliconbeat which are popular industry blogs. However, after the launch spike, HubPages traffic has been steadily growing.

Driving traffic from search engines

Our SEO practices are starting to pay off. From the two graphs below, you can see the improvement in Google and Yahoo search traffic. We think it's fascinating how Google gives you very little and then blows open the doors as it trusts the site more, while Yahoo grows more steadily. As a side note, Google search traffic is 10X Yahoo's on a daily basis now.

Revenue

We have seen the emergence of certain types of content that is capable of earning significant CPMs. While the average CPM of a Hub is about $5, certain categories dramatically out perform it. We'll also be releasing new technologies soon that help increase the monetization of the pages.

Idea Bank and Technology

We are announcing a "Grow the pot" contest for the month of December. Each page from our Idea Bank increases the pot by $2. There's a new winner everyday. Hopefully someone will take home some decent pots.

The suggestions in the Idea Bank are from a new technology we created to find topics where there is a good opportunity to drive traffic from search engines. Posts on the topics will help us improve the technology.

Jimmy, I'm glad you are seeing the benefits of Google traffic. We have found getting traffic from search engines helps improve the earnings.

One of the things I have really enjoyed is the sense of community that people like you, drax, idunn, wajay, stuartj, yojdawg, chuck, moonmaiden, ralph (hope I'm not leaving out any regulars) and others have brought to the site. Keep the jokes coming:)

I have made a few bucks off of amazon but thats about it besides the idea bank which kick ass. My google account got disabled a while back for some BS stuff and i've been trying to get it back. None the less, hubpages has been kick ass i think. I remember the days when it was just a few of us hubbing and i owned the front page of hubpages. I really do love this site i just wish i had more time to hub. Whenever i link people to the site they like it alot they are just too lazy to write. Although people have been getting more interested in the idea bank when i tell them about it. Hubpages FOR LYFE, and Mr. Pages... you are my hero.

I adore hubpages, and I am happy it is rising in the ranks of the search engines. I think it is a great place for beginning bloggers like me, and some of the hubs have been really helpful to me as I learn to navigate this "brave new world."
