Hubba-hubba Hubpages! While back in the day, this slang was akin to a wolf whistle when a good looking woman came into view, it also means having enthusiasm for something. Hubba-hubba Hubpages!

In the short two weeks that I’ve been hubbing, I have written nine articles and have a total of 217 times that those articles have been read. The most page hits I’ve had were 38 for an article about what to think about or do in your thirties before hitting the big 4-0.

Before coming to Hubpages, I set up my own blog: www.whyitmatters.org. While being more of a social or political commentary blog, I wanted to write about issues that affect us and why they matter to us all. I have written 4 or 5 articles on it, but no one really has read them. I haven’t written any more of them since I came to Hubpages, though I plan to eventually. So far, all of my writing energy has gone into this new venture.

Discovering Hubpages

A lack of readership is what led me to www.Hubpages.com. While I was writing what I believe in at my blog, I might as well have been writing in my own diary. Why write about things that matter to us all if I am the only reader? I already know they matter. I wrote them.

When I first discovered Hubpages, I wasn’t really sure what it was or what I was doing or even how I was doing it. That led to my first Hubpage titled Dazed, Confused and Hubbing It -- What a Hub Is and How to Create One. I wrote it as I created the first one, still really unsure about what a hub even was. I was halfway through before I realized that a hub is really just a blog or post. I then realized that Hubpages is a community of bloggers who have come together to give each other moral support and a platform to speak from. Oh, and a way for the creators of Hubpages to make big bucks off of other people who are mostly working for free. What a great idea!

The most amazing thing was that within FIVE minutes of posting that first article, it had been read by two people already! I couldn’t believe it. I was ecstatic! That has led to 217 page views so far. I am thrilled with the results. At this stage, some people may have a lot more viewers (and a lot more fans), but I am not in competition with other Hubbers. At this point, I am just happy to have any readers at all.

Blogging For Dummies

The beauty about Hubpages is that all you have to do is create. Hubpages does most (unfortunately not all) of the technical behind the scenes work. Right now, I need that as I am totally computer illiterate when it comes to search engine optimization, html, and all that other technical jargon. I am slowly, but surely, learning as I go. Just yesterday, I added my first video to a post.

I still do not understand some of the practices of Hubpages, in spite of reading a lot of the articles about it. That would definitely include Hubscores and Hub author scores. How do they determine those scores? I’ve yet to read the definitive hub where the light bulb finally lights up.

It reminds me of way back in the DOS days, before the advent of Windows. I took a class at the local community college about it. On page 72, I finally got it and wondered why they just didn’t say that on page 1. Why does it all have to be so complicated?

While I think highly of my own intelligence in most areas, I have to admit that I am a slow learner when it comes to the highly technical jargon and procedures needed to do some of this stuff. It can be very frustrating. I’ve looked at the Dummy books at the book store, but thought those were above my ability to understand them too. I am worse than a computer Dummy!

I am anxiously awaiting the day that I go to the bookstore (or a hub page) and find that information written in a way that makes me finally get it. The problem is with all how to articles and books on computers is that they assume that the reader knows something about it. No matter how they hard they try, they still fall into that same cycle of writing over my head. Please, someone, write an article for your two year old about some of this stuff and then send it to me! See Jane Browse....See Dick link....See Jane blog…Hopefully, someone can come up with something to help me.

Thank You, Hubpages!

In the meantime, thanks to the creators of Hubpages, I am able to publish in a relatively easy format. Fortunately, I have enough knowledge of the basics to hub. I am hubbing it and loving it. Hubba-hubba Hubpages!

HELLO !!!! You just described me. However, I was not gifted with the wonderful writing skills you have shown, I am facebooking it. I need a Facebook for Dummies book. So much behind the scenes information, that I just don't get. I almost feel like someone is keeping a secret from me, and, preventing me to acheive the real Facebook experience. All because, I still don't know all the ins-and-outs. They really do have a Facebook for Dummies, I'm just to embarrased to go get it at the Library. Good Grief !!! I will just keep plugging away, and, with the help of my sister, daughter, and some cousins, and of course, you. Thanks again for a wonderful HUB.

Hubba hubba!  ;D  For someone who doesn't "get" technical stuff, I'd say you're doing great on the stuff that matters - content and style. Much like some musicians who can't read a note of music, but play music that can made a listener laugh, cry and everything in between.

btw, I'm an "old DOS hound".  Not that I had a natural talent for it, only the luxury of a company-paid computer tutor who *could* explain things to a 2-yr-old.  Can't tell you what the "Aha!" moment was, but thanks to this *very* patient fellow, I got so good at manipulating DOS code that when Windows came out, I had to be ordered by my boss to learn to use a mouse.  ;D

For what it's worth, I'm lost at Facebook and Twitter!

I sighed up for Twitter, but never "twitted." I wasn't sure what to say....but I really appreciate your comments about my hub having good content and style. Of course, I especially liked the comparison to the musicians. Each piece that I do is my art (to me), even when it comes down to the more mundane. I am very new to article writing, having only ever written fiction, so I am very grateful for your compliments. Thank you so much.

Feel free to write fiction here.  Standalone pieces or a series, doesn't matter (as long as it isn't hard porn).  Just write whatever you're passionate about, not what you think people will read.  We like variety.  And don't think of hubs as "articles".  They have to be longer than blog posts, but that's about all they have to be.  Let your creativity flow! ;D

Hubba-Hubba, wonderful hub! I remember writing my first hub, I didn't even know what a rss feed was. I have learned much since then, and still have tons to learn.

The support and information given by the people at HubPages has been wonderful for me. I find new information continuously here!

I also came to hubs like that, set up 4 websites all going nowhere but now I am doing ok, with of course as the Beatles once said " A Little Help From My Friends", or maybe just one is all a pirate needs ; )

Connie Smith,

I joined hubpages about the same time than you. I used to duplicate all my articles on wordpress.com. There was no traffic at all.

So far on hubpages I got some 3,500 hits, not bad. I really like it. I found you on "James".

Keep hubbing!

3,500 hits is great, Bernie. I'm almost at 600. I think I've had about 6 on my blog lol in all this time. I haven't made a dime (make that a penny), but I'm only signed up for adsense. I haven't taken the time to figure out the rest. Still, in the beginning, I have been more concerned with getting readers than making money.

Glad you found me. Thanks for being a fan.

Great hub! Looking forward to reading "Dazed, Confused, and Hubbing It." I have two blogs, one I'm sure no one reads. The other one, on crochet, gets about 25 views a day, so I figure I'm doing pretty good with that one. But here at HubPages, I've gotten a lot more people reading the 3 hubs I've written so far. It's a great place to hone your writing sklls!!

Thank you. I am now at over 2,000 views, quite a few of them from Google and Yahoo. Here at Hubpages, I like the fact that we have others who can encourage us to continue or give us pointers if we need them (and ask for them). Thank you for returning the favor and stopping by.
