What are HubPages and Squidoo?

I have been looking in the Internet for any money-generating sites. I have tried a lot of sites but the sites I find most rewarding are HubPages and Squidoo.

HubPages (http://www.hubpages.com) and Squidoo (http://www.squidoo.com) are community websites that let you write and publish articles online, and at the same time, let you earn money. They can serve as an additional source of income for you. The best feature of these programs (HubPages and Squidoo), is that once you have written and publish your articles, they will continue to earn money for you forever.

Making Money with HubPages

Both Hubpages and Squidoo let you earn more money by joining other affiliate programs. In HubPages you may include ads from Amazon, eBay and Kontera. In Squidoo, you may sell products from Amazon, eBay, CafePress and Zazzle. Both HubPages and Squidoo let you keep all the earnings you get from these programs - 100% yours.

HubPages calls their members as "hubbers" and their articles are called "hubs" while Squidoo calls their members "lensmaster" and their articles are called "lenses". Hubs and lenses are developed by integrating text modules, photo modules, video modules, link modules and many more specific modules for enhancing the webpages.

HubPages and Squidoo are both easy to use but setting up an account is a little harder with HubPages. With HubPages, you need to join Google Adsense, eBay Partner Network, Amazon Associate Program, and Kontera Advertising Network before your articles start earning money. While Squidoo uses its own site-wide affiliate accounts from the different advertisers to generate money that is distributed to its members, in HubPages, each member is responsible for the application and maintenance of his/her own affiliate program accounts in order to make money.

Both Hubpages and Squidoo are both easy to use in terms setting up advertisements. If you were running your own website, you would be responsible for copying and pasting of Google Adsense code onto each every webpage that you create. You would worry about search engine optimization, that is, how to have the different search engines like yahoo and google index your website and appear on the top of the search results. Both HubPages and Squidoo take care of all these hassles for you.

Which is better, HubPages or Squidoo?

When I joined Squidoo a year ago, a lot of my hubs are shown at the top of Google Search results, if not at the top three results, it was at least in the first page of the results. This of course leads to more traffic and more money. After sometime, newly created lenses in Squidoo have a hard time being indexed by Google Search. Some say that Google penalizing Squidoo because it has become a spamming tool.

HubPages and Squidoo both insert Google Adsense ads into your articles. When these ads are clicked and viewed by visitors reading your articles, you earn money. HubPages earns you money thru page impression sharing. Everytime your articles are displayed they will contain Google ads, but only 60% of the time would any earning from those ad impressions be credited to you account. The other 40% of the time, all earnings would be credited to HubPages as their share of the revenue. On the other hand, Squidoo uses a method of pooled earnings. All Google Adsense ads earnings from each and every member's article are pooled and members are paid pro-rata depending on the rankings of their articles.

Related Articles on Make Money Online with HubPages and Squidoo

HubPages or Squidoo? - HubPages and Squidoo are alike in that they both allow the user to earn money by creating unique content and sharing that content with the host site. People using both sites are trying to drive more traffic to their own web pages, or make money from home, or have a web presence without their own site.

Making Money on Squidoo - It's a perfectly timed request, Whitney, because I just received noticed yesterday that I am now a Giant Squid on Squidoo. Giant Squid was an invitation-only contest that Squidoo ran for some of their webmasters -- with the hopes of encouraging us to create more than 50 lenses for Squidoo, which is why my Hubpages have been coming kind of slow lately. I was in a frenzy to get my lenses done by the deadline.

Hubpages vs Squidoo - If you're a Hubber you may have heard of Squidoo. What is the fuss all about? This hub is a close look at Squidoo, how it works and what's in it for you, looking from the viewpoint of a Hub Author. Squidoo is different. Looks different. Works differently. But that doesn't make it any less of a web 2.0 vehicle. And while there are a lot of differences there are also a lot of similarities.

I had experience with Squidoo before. Hubpages is better than them. More trusted by search engines, easier-to-use interface. Especially ability to track our own earnings is key point.

I have used both, I prefer hub pages, although hubs are more restrictive, I think it will ensure that they maintain a greater trust with the big G. Great hub - I rated it up.

Best of luck on hubpages LVM. I think you need to write a few more words. though.

I hate long winded sites myself, but 800 words is what most people think of as a good number for the search engines to find and most people to read. Given how well you write it shouldn't be hard!

Also use Hubpage's free bandwidth (well they pay, we don't) for videos and photos.

I like the short and sweet overview. You might want to correct a little something: you don't need to sign up for all the advertisers on Hubpages to earn money. Most people here prefer Adsense, and Amazon or Ebay. I make most money from Adsense.

Question: do you see Hubpages and Squidoo as competitors? If so, what about other writing websites like AC and Helium? Well written hub, hope you will do some more in depth writing on the subjects in your hubs - look forward to it.

I find hubpages far easier to work with than Squidoo, although I have tried a few times to get to grips with Squidoo, but its official, hubpages is the best all round!;)

A useful hub if a little too brief. I found squidoo much less pleasant to use, and xomba was just a bit odd. Normally I like odd-

Along with several of the comments here I prefer Hubpages. Squidoo makes some great looking lenses, but using HTML for every post takes time...I also am coming to really enjoy Blogger and Vox for my blogs, both get indexed very quickly and help in the push for traffic. Great post, and thanks for the add.

I also use Squidoo and have just written my first hub here at Hubpages and so far I like Hubpages much better. I like the ease with which you can create a hub compared to a lens.

Hi LVM! I really liked this article. I have a question though. I am relatively new to hubpages and DO NOT KNOW how "the money thing" works. I have a google adsense account that is activated on hubpages as well as Amazon and Kontera (all activated). Do you have to have ALL FOUR (including ebay partnering network) activated here on HP before you can earn even one cent? I would really appreciate your educating "a rookie"! Thanks So much! I have to say my experience with Squidoo was a complete flop! I just didn't like anything about it. With Hubpages on the other hand it felt like home, I could learn and accomplish things sooo much easier! I love Hubpages, and nobody paid me to say that (although I'll say it a lot more if somebody would pay me;o)lol Keep up the good work!

I gave you a thumbs up. Also thanks for being my fan. I'm now inspired to do more Hubpages.

I headed over to hubpages from Squidoo... I like they way that I can add html and css to my lenses on Squidoo to make them look better but on the other hand I like the simplicity of hubpages in comparison.

I have yet to earn anything from hubpages but then my hubs are in their infancy, on the other hand I made around $40 with Squidoo last month, not great considering I have 80 lenses there.

I guess I have a lot to learn still and should keep plugging away :)
