Does Hubpages Work For Languishing Pages

When I wrote my hubpage on Trouble With Keywords And Hubpages it got me thinking if having a keyword targeted Hubpage can actually have an effect on an existing page. That is, does a hubpage carry the power to effect the search engine listing of a single url.

I then chose my site http://newhairstyleswomen.com that holds its own quite nicely in the search engines. There is one page that holds position four on Google and on Bing (the new and improved MSN search engine) it holds position nowhere. That's right, I could not even find it.

So I thought what a great experiment I could run here. I can experiment to see if Hubpages can dominate the keyword phrase and also see what affect it will have on the Bing search engine.

To start I have a screen shot for Google for my choosen page of "how to detox your hair" without the quotes.

I wrote the above small cap sub heading in bold so that this hubpage will bring up my chosen keyword phrase as a Heading 2 in the background html page. This heading is what the search engines will see in the html code.

As you can now see my site for how to detox your hair is in position number four.

The experiment here is to see where this hubpage will land in the search engine and ultimately what affect it will have on the current position.

I will do no more then this. I have written the hubpage and filled it with some content so the search engine bot should come along, find my heading two and then go about indexing it.

Bing ol MSN Live Results

This is better for my experiment. Yahoo already has the page in position 1 so that will be interesting to see if this hubpage pushes it down a spot or two.

As you can see here, Bing has a mix of everything, body, soul and skin, all but hair, or more importantly does not even list my url of how to detox your hair.

This is interesting as the page url I want in the Bing search engine has an intitle keyword and Bing has not listed it, whereas Google and Yahoo have for the search term.

How To Detox Your Hair Hubpage Experiment Start

Its close to 8.00pm, on Tuesday, 9 June 2009, Australian time when I published this Hubpage.

I have some tricks up my sleeve for promoting pages, but in this case, I will do none of that and see if this Hubpage alone can make a difference in the search engine.

What I expect is the Hubpage how to detox your hair, this one, will hit position one or somewhere in between position one to five.

The only thing I am worried about with this Hubpage is the keyword is not totally rewritten in the url, so lets see what happens.

I will be back on 16 June 2009 to show the results after seven days.

Results At 16 June 2009

Some interesting results came in over the past seven days.

The first result was that this Hubpage landed position 1 on Google and pushed the site down to position five. As the days progressed, the Hubpage fell off page one altogether and pushed the site to position three.

As of 16 June 2009 the Hubpage holds position one and has done so for the past three days.

The site itself has been pushed up to position three which is now an improvement.

The good result is that visitors to this search have a one in three chance of coming through to the main site.

Yahoo results are the same with the site holding position one and no listing of this Hubpage on Yahoo.

MSN Live or Bing as it is now called, has no listing at all of either the Hubpage or site on the first three pages.

The result of the experiment after seven days does show that by targeting a Hubpage with your keyword, will in fact, enhance your sites position on the search engine. This can be seen by the improvement in the search listing from position four to position three.

Over time as the Hubpage ages and passes rank to the site, I would suspect a little competition between the two pages for that number one position.

I will return in a further seven days to provide a further update.
