Hubpages Networking for Dummies
87You published a couple hubs, now what?
You want to know how to get traffic to your sites? Well if you haven't signed up for Hubpages yet, I recommend you start here then get back to me. To find this page easily, go over to the right of the page in the grayish colored side bar and look for something that says, "bookmark this hub". Then you can come back to this after you have written a couple hubs and linked them together. (See Hubpages Backlinking for Dummies) . Then we can proceed on getting you some more traffic.
Google Adsense
I am assuming that you already signed up for you Google Affiliate account, right? Okay, if not that is okay, sign up for Google Adsense right here. Or go to your account page and look for the "affiliate setting" and start there. Adsense will assign you an affiliate number that looks something like pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (those x's would be numbers) in the top right corner of your adsense account page next to "Publisher ID". Copy and paste that into the Google affiliate box and save, it will do the rest.
Let's make this as simple as possible.
Use as many networking sites as you can. It is so much easier then it looks... do you need all the details? If you do you came to the wrong place but if you just want to get it done and get on with increasing traffic and money, you found the right Hubpages Dummy!
Let's get started.
1. Open up a new browser if your operating system allows it. For PC people using Internet Explorer I suggest upgrading to Mozilla Firefox, if you haven't already, this will make back linking and networking so much easier.
2. Go to your account and open up one of your hubs.
3. Scroll down to the green "Share It" and click that. Then you will have a box that looks like this show up.
See the "Share It" button at the bottm. Click that one.
To be honest, I don't know what all the hype is about Twitter. I use it because it is easy to get my hubs and other sites published through one link.
So, click on the Twitter button. Sign up then scroll all the way down to the bottom of your home page. At the bottom you will see something that says "Goodies". Click that, then click on the first. Then it will bring you to a page that says, "widgets" or "Applications", pick "Applications", Twitter Widget you want to use looks like this and click on it.
Chose the MySpace One.
Don't worry about Facebook or Blogger yet and I will tell you why in a minute. So after you have chosen the myspace application, pick the size and texture you want for you site, copy the HTML code and paste it into your MySpace account under:
- edit profile
- interest
- general or which ever heading you want to put it under.
- save.
Viola! Now you have networked Hubpages through Twitter onto MySpace in one step.
Now you can click the green "Share it" button, click Twitter, the URL for you hub will automatically be posted into to your Twitter feed, hit "update" and you done.
Incase you missed it... Sign up here
- I Love HubPages!
For one it is the only site I have come across that you can actually make money off of that will never ask you for a cent. It's not a scam and they pretty much tell you everything you need to know to make...
Now do Facebook
Facebook is the easiest to publish to. Just sign up. Now every time you click the share it to Facebook button, it will automatically publish to facebook and all you have to do it is pick a thumbnail icon, and click share and your are done!
Woo hoo! Now you have just published to 3 Networking sites. See, I told ya, easy. These ones look nice too. Plus you will find a lot of hubbers on facebook. So when you get there look for some friends and look for Sandra Rinck and add to friends. From there, there a whole bunch of Hubbers will show up in the same network that you can add to your profile. This is good for you because one of the things that makes HubPages so awesome is the people in the community.
They will probably be the first to read your work, and the more people that click on your hubs to read, the better off you will be in the long run getting a good place in a Google search.
- Why Did I Join HubPages
This is a response to a question asked by Waynet. So why did I join hubpages? I remember a couple years back I was going through a radical change in my life. Not "the change" but a change. I just had a...
Using the Twitter App. on Blogger
Okay now do Blogger. Blogger is oober easy to do too! When you sign up for your Google Affiliate account, sign into your account located on the top right corner of the Google Homepage (if you have Google set as your home page that is).
And set up a Blogger account. Don't worry this is free too! After you have picked a template and a name for your blog spot, go back to the HTML code you got off of Twitter and follow these steps to first get your twitter feed into the widget section. Twitter has a separate app. for Blogger but I don't like it. It doesn't look very pretty.
- go to layout
- go to HTML/Java Script
- paste Twitter/Myspace HTML code in the box and save it.
When you go back to look at the page, you will probably notice that the widget is too big for the side bar. That is okay.
Open up the same box you just pasted the HTML code in and look for something in the code that looks like width="300" and height="350" and change the size of the widget. On mine I only changed the width to "250", and at the bottom of the code you may need to change the width to 250 also.
Anyways, if you mess up just cut out the whole code and do it again. But you shouldn't have a problem with it. If you are wondering why I chose to use the twitter/myspace app. on Blogger instead of the Blogger one, it is because the Blogger one looks like a regular RSS Feed, not very eye catching.
Now, two things will happen. When you share it through twitter it will end up on your blog spot in the widget. But what I like about doing it this way is that if I have something random I want to share, I can copy the link through twitter and it will be there but if I have a something that I only want to show on Blogger, then I have the option of just using the share it to Blogger button and it shows up automatically on your site.
Plus, I discovered that when you do it this way and are using adsense on your blogger account, you get better ads!
Digg and Stumbleupon
Do the same for them too. On these two site you have to do a little bit more. After you share it, they will ask for a category but it's pretty easy to figure out so you shouldn't have a problem.
Now, if you have your own websites you want to promote as well, you can set up an RSS feed into your websites and share this as well through Twitter, Facebook, Stumbleupon, Blogger, Myspace and Digg. However I recommend using the Twitter app. on your external sites because it is a quick feed and works great, it stands out.
Hope this was easy to understand and helpful. Good luck! Well, you don't need luck if you just do it the Sandy way. :D
The "Read More" section of this hub is an RSS feed.
An RSS feed stands for "really simple syndication". It's a way to update my hubs with out having to come back and update a link capsule. You can use an RSS feed for a few different reasons.
- I subscribe to hubbers RSS feeds so that I can keep updated on the hubbers new pages that I am interested in. For example. I was reading a series that Anjalichugh was writing on Astral Projections. It was a series that I really enjoyed reading and wanted to keep updated. After a while of being on hubpages, most hubbers turn off their email notifications because they tend to overflow your email account so I was missing the new hubs from the authors I was really interested in at the time. So to counter this problem I started subscribing to their feeds.
- If you are using igoogle, it should ask you if you want to add it to your homepage. Then you can have updates like you would for a news feed like CNN.
- I use the feeds on external web addresses so I don't have to go back to every website and add the new hub every time I write one.
Using and RSS feed is really, really simple. To add your RSS feed to your own hub like this one; all you have to do is right click on Subscribe to RSS feed, click "copy link location" and paste it into the RSS capsule where it asks for the URL.
Now every time you publish a new hub, all the hubs you are using a feed on are updated.
RSS Widget
Hubpages also has a widget that uses your RSS feed.
On your profile, it will say "subscribe to... widget" after you click on that you get this page. All you have to do here is select the url tracker you want to use, adjust the width and height to fit the external page you are using it on. Highlight the HTML code and paste it into where ever you want to use it on.
This widget cannot be used on hubpages but you can use it in blogger, your own websites, myspace etc... On hubpages you can only use the default feed.

You are welcome lil' brother! Hope it is easy enough to understand... dummy! Just kidding. :D Seriously, good luck. It takes a little more time to put together a hub but it is definitely worth it.
this is worth more than a twitter. Thanks !
You are welcome barryrutherford! Glad to be of service. :D
Hi Sandy, I sometimes forget to link and I must remember to do that regularly. Hehehe Thanks for the reminder. :-)
No problemo ripplemaker. Thanks for stopping by. For whatever reason you just always bring a smile to my face. :D
Great information. I use Facebook at the moment, but will try the others as well following your instructions. Nice Hub!
Thanks CMHypno. Have you read Hubpages backlinking for dummies yet. Backlinking is really the key.
Not yet - the wireless chip has gone on my laptop, so living on borrowed internet access at the moment. Looks like its terminal, so will have to go laptop shopping! Will definitely read it when I have my usual internet access back.

I suggest a Mac when you buy a new computer. They are a little more expensive then other computers but definitely worth it.
Good luck to you. :D
At least for once I was doing the right thing. After reading your earlier hub on back linking, I suddenly came to know what havoc I was playing with my RSS feed but for networking, I'm doing it all right. Thx for sharing such valuable info. :)
Awesome Anja! You are very welcome. :D
Sooo easy, like the backlinking hub. Just a revision, since Twitter has upgraded, note that the "Apps" button at the bottom is now the "Goodies" button. Thanks Sandra for another great hub of info!!
Oh, thanks for the update Beth100. Now I have to go back and edit. Good to have people around to keep me on top of things.
Sandra can you tell the the Read More section in your hub what is that is this rss feed? or just links? if it is rss feed then how you created that rss feed? is that your Hub profile page rss?
Sure finsoft. give me a few minutes and I will update this page for you.
Let me make sure I understand your question first.
You are asking if the "read more" section of the hub is a RSS feed or if it is a link capsule, correct?
It is an RSS feed from my profile. Let me make some changes real quick and I will leave you a quick link.
Okay finsoft, I updated the hub for you. I hope this is what you are looking for.
Very good info! It inspired me enough to sign up for Myspace and Twitter and to add them to my backlink arsenal. :)
Cool Yoshi! Look me up when you get there. :D
Have worked my way through twitter to my space and two glasses of wine. Will continue tomorrow! Many thanks, Cheers.
Totally failed with Blogger! Will skip and go onto next step.
Everything is informative, but about this RSS feed it tells about this feedburning and then putting that url to feed RSS.
It looks a cumbersome task.
Hi easegiri, the rss feed I am talking about in this hub is for you rss feed. If you want to add your feed to something you would go to your profile and copy your rss feed url to place in the appropriate place.
Feedburner is something different.
What wonderful hubs thank you !!
Do you mean that when you do this you are creating backlinks to your hubs? someone please shed some light since am new to all this hubtivity thing.
Exactly kuborite!
Great information and so well presented that even I could follow it!
Thanks :)
Great Hub! I'm a newbie and this is a big help! I'm making a little money already. This will help me get more traffic. Thanks Bunches!
Liked your hub, lots of helpful information. Appreciate your time putting all of this together for us new people
Thanks for all the info. - I really don't get social networking at all. Do people actually visit your hub after seeing a url from a total stranger appear on twitter or facebook ? Is that what's supposed to be going on or have I totally missed the point ?
Hi Singular Investor, actually it is more hype than it is worth but yes I do get readers using facebook and twitter but not nearly as much as I get from Google and Yahoo search engines.
Really, you only benefit with twitter if you have followers in the thousands+.
My suggestion is to still use them because on lead is better than no leads but I would stick to what does work which is through keywords, context, backlinking, and originality.
True as day, most the money I make doesn't come from any social networking site but through specified searches.
I hope that was helpful and encouraging to you.
Yes, many thanks Sandra. I shall stick to keywords, Google and backlinks
Love you fun writing style. Woo hoo! Awesome! I am brand new and about to start with Google Adwords. All of this is a mystery to me. Thank you for sharing. I bookmarked so my little brain cells can review later.
