Hubpages Book

An Idea

There are many published authors on Hubpages and there are many others like myself who write for the pure fun of it.

The Idea of being a published author for me is a pipe dream at the moment, either in a book or even in a magazine, first of all I would have no Idea of how to go about getting an article published and secondly I don't think that my writing is of such a quality that it would be good enough to be published.

A couple of weeks ago an Idea came to me, (Yes that was that strange noise you heard back then), that I have been mulling over in my head wondering if it would be a viable project for someone to undertake.

A series of books based on hubs published by us the Authors of Hubpages

Hub Books The Series

Writing a book using different Hubpages topics could be a real money spinning idea that would work on a lot of different levels depending on just how much success the book actually received.

  • 1) The Authors whose work was included in each book would get a share of the profits.

  • 2) The books would attract a lot more visitors to The Hubpages website.

  • 3) More Visitors = more ad clicks.

  • 4) People like myself could get their dream chance to have an article published in a real book.

  • 5) If one of your articles was in the book there could be a slight chance of other work, writing related articles in local magazines or newspapers.

  • 6) Hubpages would receive a vast amount of free publicity.

  • 7) There would be an upsurge of writers joining hubpages just to try and get into the next book in the series.

So what would the books be about?

There are many different topics written about on hubpages that could be split into categories and put into the corresponding books in the series.

The Hubpages cook book

(Recipe's from every corner of the globe)

The Hubpages Joke book

(Jokes for people of all ages)

The Hubpages Book of Poetry

(Poetry from around the world)

The Hubpages book of short stories

(Short stories with a sting in the tail)

The Hubpages Travel guide

Travel information from real people.

These are just a few of the books that could be a part of the hub series there are a lot more topics to cover.

Would you guys as hub authors be willing to have your work used in these type of books?

Let me know what you guys think using the comments box below.

I have made a start on the idea, I have been going through some different food hubs for different recipe's over the past week or so.

Well, there certainly is enough quality information to use in putting a book (or series) together! Great thoughts, Jimmy. I'll buy a copy of the travel book and cookbook.

Jimmy, I was thinking of something similar to this last night. There is so much quality writing on this site that is helpful on so many levels. I'm not sure what the logistics are, but.... If the hubs are available for free online, the books would have to have something *extra* to make them worth paying for, right?

I agree that the information is free online, but not everyone has a computer, the book or books would give people a quick reference guide to which ever topic without having to search through hundreds of hubs until they find the one that they are looking for.....jimmy

The something extra would be hard copy, permanent, portable, and not dependant on the internet. Instead of having to surf hubpages for your interest, it's brought to you in a convenient unique form called a book LOL The cookbook could include not just recipes but realted hubs on say, setting the table, giving a dinner party, some personal anecdotes around eating--anything related so long as the writing and info were good. I think its a great idea!

yes a gardening book, and a travel book, and a vitamin book, and a fitness book ooooooh the possibilities are endless:-) With some good marketing, both online and off, it could work and be quite profitable.

Great idea, Jimmy. Before I joined HubPages I considered putting my columns together in a book, but it would be a big project that probably wouldn't pay. But I've often thought there are hundreds, if not thousands, of possible books within the Hubpages site. But I was thinking primarily of two kinds: One that's put together by Hubpages on specific topics, and one that puts together a single author's hubs (perhaps something like a "best of" that author's works.) I hope your idea takes hold!

Thanks for your feedback guys, I am looking further into the project, and hopefully will get someting up and running soon, Sybille, I would rather try a publisher OR Publishers, outside in the real world before deciding on LULU OR BLURB, although they would still be an option if all else failed.

I have had a much better response to the idea than I first expected.

but was wondering how many authors of hubpages would like their work published in this way.....jimmy

A travel book is a great idea -mainly because I have several relevant hubs ROTFL! Allso a lot of people travelling don't have cheap easy access to the internet - books are great for buses and planes!

This is a good idea. It would also inspire us to work harder on hubs so that they are publishable materal.

I like it.....!!

jimmy, since this is your most current hub, I'm relating this "this just in" anecdote. kk, so I'm at the computer doing, ahem, computer stuff. I'm listening sort of halfway to the tv rambling on behind me in the leftover 4 shows since the one I was watching went off like 3 hours ago. :p anyway, I hear "scottish" so I start to actively listen. some guy is interviewing another guy at a pub and he asks "are you scottish first or british first?" and the guy sayz "scottish first". so the interviewer summarizes, "you're scottish first and british second, then" and he said "no, I'm scottish second too".

I immediately thought you'd get a kick out of it even though best of my knowledge you're not a nationalist. I just thought you'd find it amusing, so I clicked info and if you get the chance this is what it was. It was on PBS here which is Public Broadcasting System, so those shows are purchased offset by public moneys and donations. I have no idea where it might have originated.

Show was called: Rick Steves' Europe - Edinburgh - Travel (2006)
