Hubpages Newbie Tips for Getting Traffic to Hubs
57I have created this Hub Quoting The Original Hubpages Official Tips to help Newbies who wonder how to promote their hubs outside this site. These tips will be very useful to writers who are not familiar with the site. I Too was a Newbie Once....that is the great advice i can give all of you.
Set your sights on popular social bookmarking sites.
Social bookmarking sites are a great place to reach out. Digg, reddit and StumbleUpon allow you to submit links to your Hubs and any of your favorite Websites. Visitors will then check out your Hub. If they like it, they can give the link positive votes, which will expand your reach to an even larger audience.
- To submit links to Digg, Facebook, Myspace, and Del.icio.us, click on the Share it! Link at the bottom of your Hub. Choose from the "digg this page", "reddit!" or "bookmark this page (Del.icio.us)" links in the box that opens.
- You may also want to consider social bookmarking sites like StumbleUpon, Mixx, Sphere, Spurl, and Furl.
A word to the wise: These sites are just like HubPages. They'd like you to participate actively and add value to their site. The site can work against you if you're only out to promote yourself.
Spread a little HubLove.
If you read and interact with other Hubbers, they in turn will drive traffic back your way. Here are some ideas on how to make sure everyone wins:
- Leave relevant, helpful comments on other Hubs. (Make sure they're relevant and helpful so they'll be approved and displayed.) Other Hubbers will see the link in your username. And the Hubber you left a comment with will probably return the favor, which means your Hub is getting visited — a plus for search engines.
- Become a fan of your favorite Hubber. Leave them supportive fan mail (with a link back to your profile, naturally), and check their newly published Hubs. This boost to the ego is often returned.
- Participate in HubPages discussion forums. You establish yourself as the helpful expert, which drives links and comments to your Hubs.
Spreading the HubLove can only help you, your fellow Hubber, and ultimately HubPages as a whole. The more traffic we generate together, the bigger our role on the entire Internet becomes.
Give traffic the green light.
You can send links out to the Internet community through:
- Blogs or Website (yours and others you can access.)
- Friends via email.
- Favorite online discussions forums and chat rooms
- Social bookmarking sites, like Digg, reddit, and StumbleUpon.
Posting links on blogs and websites generates traffic in two ways.
First, people can easily follow the link to your Hub. Second, Google and other search engines recognize links as a sign of approval, or "thumbs up", for your Hub. That could elevate you up in their rankings, which can ultimately lead to more traffic.
Special tip — here are are the best spots on a blog to link to a Hub:
- Your Blogroll or Links section in the sidebar.
- Daily blog entries, with a short piece of text describing your Hub.
- Blog comments (either on yours or other bloggers)
Link to the ones you love.
Friends, family, and anyone who shares your interests are ideal recipients of links. They're the ones most likely to comment on your Hubs and post links on their blogs or websites. Here are some painless ways to reach out and link to someone:
- Email a Hub link. Just click on the "Share it!" link at the bottom of your Hub, then click on the "Email this page" link. You can import addresses from your address book and add a personal note.
- Add links wherever your personal information appears. Put links in your email and discussion forum signature lines, and on your MySpace and Yahoo 360 profile. These are quick, simple ways to promote your Hubs.

I have tried linking in blogs about the same topic as a hub I have written. I really like this type of back linking as it can produce some unexpected results. I actually was offered writing work from one blog! I have yet to try out this type of thing with forum sites but I expect that it could be a fun way to back link. The topics we choose to write to seem to make a big difference, the high paying topics (for adsense) are often harder to find blogs n such for while lower paying ones can sometimes be populated with people out there happy to have comments and share traffic :). These are just my rambling thoughts anyway and I am still kinda new so I am still learning too!
