Hubpages review - My blogs are making money
75I searched online to try and find ways to make money and stumbled on a Hubpages site which said, "blogs making money". Having never even written a blog before I was intrigued how you could write about anything and earn money through sites such as google AdSense, eBay affiliates, Amazon affiliates, Clickbank and many more affiliate programmes. I asked myself why someone would want to pay me for writing about products and interests I have, so I decided to sign up to hubpages and give it a go. After all I had nothing to lose as I had come across a number of sites claiming things like, "blogs making money" and, "pick up a nice fat paycheck", but found them to be scams. So I signed in to Hubpages and had a good look around the site to find out a little more about the way hubpages worked. I posted a question in the help section asking for some advice and was inundated with links to hubpages help topics and articles for newbies.
I am rather an impatient person, so the first day I decided to write about my experience with online money making work and my disaster in trying to find a legit job online. The layout for writing a hub is so easy and everything is done for you including tag suggestions, but I must say I have since been told that your own research into tags is much better. Over the next few days I read every piece of information on keyword research, tags, affiliates and basically the best options for me to start earning some money from my written work.
AdSense success
The name AdSense kept popping up, so I investigated further to find that google AdSense will pay me for advertising on my page. This means when someone clicks on an ad that is related to the topic of my blog I will earn money per click dependant on the price of the keyword used in the search engine from people visiting my page. I found this on my account at the affiliates page and followed instructions to sign up for AdSense.
In the time it took for my AdSense to be approved which was around two weeks, I had written a few more hubs and stopped for a while to wait on my approval. How pleased I was when finally I had confirmation of this and started on my quest to see how much I could earn. So far in the 16 days I have $30 earning from the google AdSense affiliate programme which means my blogs are making money. This has given me a push to produce more blogs and I am hoping to have earnings of around $20 per week by the end of this month.
The enjoyment I have from knowing that my work is being viewed and I am getting paid to do something I love is a dream job for me. Also sign up for google analytics as this will help you to see where your traffic is coming from and any backlinks you may have to your page. I know my blogs will improve as time goes on and I have had lots of success on certain articles which I need to try and replicate. All in all Hubpages has changed my life and given me the passion for writing that I thought was lost in my teenage years. If you would like to join Hubpages like I did and give it a go please click this link for hubpages sign up.
No success with Amazon associates
I have the Amazon affiliate and I am still trying to decide whether this is the programme for me. Although I have lots of product articles which are suited to the Amazon affiliate programme, I have not really given it my best shot as I feel once I have a good steady income from google AdSense I can take a step forward and investigate whether or not amazon is good for me. I may be a little impatient and thought I would have immediate success as I did on AdSense, but for me this has not happened yet and I think we should all consider dealing with one affiliate programme at a time.
Ebay affiliates programme
I am being honest with this Hubpages review and as far as EBay goes I do not think they feel the Huber love. In the help sections I have read several references for EBay, stating people were being rejected. I am not sure why Hubpages still have them as an affiliate and to be honest the process of trying to sign up is complicated and not very easy to follow. I persevered and tried but was rejected with a standard letter that everyone seems to be getting these days. They are still happy for me to shop at EBay and spend my money but do not wish to have me advertising their site which is a shame as my knowledge is in the fashion and beauty industry and covers a vast range of product information and expert advice from 25 years working in the industry. Maybe one day I will try again to earn money from the EBay affiliate programme, but for now I will stick with my beloved google AdSense.
A mention on Kontera
I have yet to apply for Kontera as I was advised to wait untill I had at least 50 hubs under my belt, so I have taken this on board and will be applying for Kontera in the near future if I feel I need a boost to my online writing income. I have heard some very good and bad things about them and I will make my own judgement when the right time comes. If you would like more information on kontera you can visit the Kontera help section within the hubpages site.
A few tips for new Hubpage users
- Read as many hubs on Hubpages help topics as you can, and keep a pad and pencil ready to jot down any relevant information.
- Use the Hubpages help to ask questions on things you do not understand as the hubber love is good here.
- Sign up to google AdSense when you have a few hubs under your belt and also sign up to Blogger as this is a google blog site and I was tipped off that they get first dibs. Being part of both will increase the traffic to your hubs
- Traffic: This is spoken of often and is referring to the amount of people visiting your page. Search engine traffic being the most profitable for google AdSense.
- Your goal; Is to try and reach first page on a google search engine so as to send larger amounts of traffic to your site
- If you are not interested in the money side and want to write for pure enjoyment hubpages is the ideal place for you.
- Use google adwords to investigate your keywords and tags. This is the best way of researching your title blogs.
- Click bank is another site you may wish to join so check it out and see if you like it.
- Write good informative hubs and start with something you have knowledge on.
- Just enjoy your stay and any questions or comments feel free to ask below or visit the many hubs here on hubpages on how to make money on hubpages, and hubpages for beginners.
- My blogs are making money and yours will too with a little hard work and determination you will be picking up your first google AdSense paycheck.

thanks Nick I am working hard to get to the 50 hub mark but it is taking a long time but lots of fun here at hubpages.
So true about eBay. I tried to sign up again 2 days ago and I am a seller by the way which cut out several of the confusing steps - I got all the way to the very end where they gave me 90 seconds to insert some information - and next thing I know I was bounced out of the system - and told I'd get an email in a few days. I'll pass on eBay.
I too am enjoying hubpages tremendously and will get a payout this month. Enjoying writing and knowing that I can get residual income makes hubpages number 1 for me. AdSense is the best of all. So easy to join and watch your pay rise - a real incentive!
Great hub - and you have written 20 quality hubs in 4 weeks and earning very well too - at that rate you will have a payout in no time. Congratulations!
Thank you for this hub!
Thanks Bkcreative I am glad to hear I am not the only one having trouble with Ebay. Like you stated google adsense is very easy and hubpages really do all the hard work for us. Congrats on getting a payout and may there be many more.
Helen - you are doing really well here at HP. You seem to have found a great niche - one that brings in visitors and one that's profitable. :) Keep up the good work!
Great Article. I am trying to catch up with Mark Knowles who makes about $1000 a month. Right now, I am averaging about $14.00 a week without too much search engine optimization. My plan is to optimize with Google Adsense and continue to update with additional articles.
Thanks Aqua for your support you have all been really kind.
Thanks for the visit and yes the $1000 dollars per month could be achieved with hard work and also hubpages is fun too.
I was also turned down by Ebay. Wondering whether anyone gets paid much from Amazon? One hubber advised just to stick with Adsense alone. You are doing GREAT from what you say. I am no where close to your earnings. Perhaps it is my choice of subject material. I do primarily travel articles.
Thanks Peggy I think we made need to get some clarification on the Ebay situation as I have yet to hear from any recent users. This leads me to wonder why we are waisting our time applying as it took me days to do it. I think travel will be a good adsense earner. Hang in there.
I intend to keep writing travel articles. Fun reliving it (for me) and perhaps of value to people who have not yet visited those places or wish to be reminded of their travels. Occasionally I branch out in other directions. Nice meeting you!
The more I read the better I'm getting at learning how to earn money on the "Pages." I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one rejected by ebay. Now I'll not put anymore capsules for ebay on my hubs. Thanks for this very good hub.
I think only GOOGLE ADs is good for both of us.
I thing google ads are the way forward and yesterday I had 6$ for all my work which is fantastic and my second highest earning day in the few weeks I have been going. Don't worry about Ebay fasfreta it is there loss.
You are right helen,google pays.
Well done Helen,
good hub.
I could use some of these tips.
Thanks Helen for a good informative hub.
Thanks all of you for the suport you have given me haere at hubpages and if I can pass a little of how to make money on hubpages over to you all then I will.
Hi Helen, I enjoyed your hub. I found it informative and honest. I have signed up with AdSense and made a modest amount of money, but then I only have 2 hubs yet. After reading your article I won't even bother with e-bay or Amazon for a while. You've certainly been busy in your first 4 weeks. I'm looking forward to reading more of your hubs :)
Great hub Helen. I'm new to this whole hubbing, online marketing game. I know enough to know that I have a whole lot more to learn. I couldn't agree more with you about ebay. I don't know what there problem is. I thought I was being rejected because I'm living in a foreign country. I mean, I'm trying to advertize for their company. After the ease of signing up for Amazon, I was flabergasted at the complexity and inconvenience of ebay. As for Amazon, I've made zilch from them, but I guess I'll keep trying. It's not a priority though. My hits and adsense revenue are just starting to pick up. I'm really motivated.
Osws_ bluemoon: You are doing great for your first few hubs here at hubpages. Keep up the good work and try to produce a few more.
jcwin228: That is really good to know for the readers of this hub. I think some people feel they have been rejected for Ebay because of the country they live in. We now know this is a world wide thing and EbAy does not like hubpages.
I enjoyed reading your Hub. You are making some money. Congratulations on the fast start. Welcome to the community.
Thanks James I hope you are doing well here at hubpages too.
Thank you, Helen, this is great! I appreciate how you share your experiences in such an honest and down to earth style, refreshing, actually, like a cup of good coffee. You certainly make me feel inadequate in that you've been a Hubber 5 weeks with 22 Hubs, and I'm at 4 weeks and finally ready to post my first (trying to fight through these butterflies and second thoughts). Thanks for your good advice, think I'll go have another cup of coffee (actual slurp style).
Very nice informative hub. Thanks for sharing the information. Don't you just love being a Hubber! I know I do.
O.K Fine. You succeeded in a short time.Good. Just go on adding your hubs to direcectorries. You will make further money
Hey, yours is one of the finest i've seen here... could you please give me some suggestions?..... Because eventhough nothing comes up in my adsense accoun, im continuing creating my hubs and i think im gonna be addicted to hubpages,,,, People like you are real inspiration for new hubbers like me.... could you please give me some tips on how to get traffic and how to start making money through adsense?,,,,, you'll be doing a great help...
Thank u,... take care.
This is great, thank you for the rundown! I just started and want to add hub to my portfolio of online earnings. Thus far it is the most fun of all the sites I have tried.
I'm glad I read this. It is quite enlightening. It looks like Adsense is really the way to go. I hope I can get my Adsense approved soon. Thanks!
This is good news. Well done and keep it up. :)
This hub is an encouragement to me. I've just signed up to Hubpages but haven't really started a Hub. Been learning and thinking. Maybe it's time to start writing. Thanks for sharing your honest review.
Very informative hub! I've had zero success with Amazon too, and eBay wouldn't even accept me so Adsense all the way here. It's good to know that other Hubbers are doing well from Adsense - there's hope for me yet!
I am so pleased at to far you have come and the comments left, well done Helen !
I think if this hub can encourage people to push forward with google adsense, then I have done my job. I really hope it works as well for all of you as it has for me.
You go girl !
There are those who say Adsense is not the place to make really good money. But over the years I have done really well with the simple PPC program.
I think if you have only AdSense you will make more from them. I have heard people who have too many capsules like Ebay and Amazon, appear to have less adsense earnings. This is why I choose to be loyal to AdSense as they are looking after me.
I have also started to try this. So far i'm making a small amount of money but I think the more hubs i do and the better i get at i will make more money.
Hey
Wonderful to hear of your success and some honest feedback. I've applied to eBay and, even though I have a blog of my own, I simply haven't heard from them...strange.
Hope it continues to go well,
Juliet
We would all be interested to know if you get it. You would be the first I have heard of since joining hubpages.
Thanks for this very informative hub, Helen--I just signed up yesterday and still getting my way around here--reading your hub gave me alot of information as to how to go about with my hubbing--:) thanks again :)
Hi, thanks for your tips. So far I am making a bit of money directly from my 3 blogs but NOT really with Hubpages I guess the problem is the type of hubs I write. Topics probably not too interesting here. I keep trying...
You are a very good writer with interesting informative information. I will put to practice looking up my own keywords.

Helen, are you using "hubs" and "blog" interchangably? I haven't signed up for any affiliates yet. Lissie had recommended to have a web presence for ~6 mo through HP and a personal blog before applying, so as not to get rejected. WHen did you sign up for AdSense? Do you have a personal blog or other web presence?
The reason I use Blogs and hubs is people reading this can relate more to blogging, unless you are part of the hubpages network. I applied for my AdSense very quickly. I had only written a few hubs when I applied but was given some advice about joining blogger because it is google. I only wrote one blog there to try and speed up the AdSense approval. It took around ten days in the end but I continued to write hubs and spent a day at blogger asking questions in the forums. I have heard people being refused but this may be due to where you live and how much traffic you have coming to your site. You may want to read my other hubs on AdSense as it may give you a little more help in getting traffic.
You provided such a good information, great hub.
Good for you! Thanks for the very informative hub!
Thanks for a great and informative hub!I've been trying to come up with a way to make a litte extra money and your suggestions are great.I'll be sure to read the rest of your blogs on AdSense and get started.I've only written two hubs so far but intend to write more--especially if I can earn a few $$ at it :) ty again for a great hub!
Thank you everyone you can't imagine how much this means to me. I am sure you will all be earning with AdSense very soon.
A great hub! I've found on my other websites that the amazon affiliate money is a lot slower to trickle in, but its still appreciated.
Hi Helen, glad you're doing so well at hub pages. Like you my aim is to earn some money, bu at the same time, I really enjoy writing hubs. I also write copy on line for a bit of regular 'money in the bank' work, but have no choice over topics, and obviously have deadlines to meet. Hubpages allows me to write about stuff that I enjoy,so well done for doing good and sharing your success with all of us!
Hi Helen - Good job, congrats on earning residual income with google adsense. Mine is slowly trickling in, but I am patient to wait and see what happens. Thank you for this informative article. Everyone is so friendly at HP and I learned alot in a very short period of time. Keeping writing and I will be your biggest fan!!
Nice hub and encouraging for the future hubbers of HP who have been waiting in the queue. Keep it up.
I hope this hub helps lots of people starting Hubpages. You can earn money online from this and mine is increasing all the time.

I like the encouraging and supportive tone of this hub. An unrelated comment? I love your hair!! :)
Did you notice that this is one of your best hub?
Earning 30 dollars in 16 days is really something as I earned my 10 after four months! Writing is a gift if you know how to use it, plus the content should be catchy like yours. This is a great start for you. I think you'll earn more in the futre! Good luck Helen.
Shamel
Sounds like you're doing well here in HubPages - good work!
In fact, there are tons of ways to earn money other than adsense and affiliate programs, but before anything, you must have a lot of visitors to your website or pages first, this is usually the most difficult task.
Great hub, Helen. I hope your success is continued!
FYI, I linked your hub to a new fan of mine - http://hubpages.com/hub/When-mom-is-in-school
A well explained HUB. I was told to wait for at least 6 months before adsense accepts my application as per their policy for indian residents. After reading this hub I am not so sure of making sufficient income by just using affiliate programs of amazon.
Nice one helen very useful.
