Hubpages: How to add eBay and Amazon Capsules

Why should you add eBay and Amazon Capsules?

By adding Amazon and eBay capsules you can make a percentage of items you sell from your hub. Your readers are more likely to buy something from your hub if your listings are relevant to what your hub is about. For example, if you are writing a hub about roasting a turkey it would be relevant to have a roasting pan for sale from eBay or Amazon.

Add an eBay capsule to your hub

Adding eBay capsules to your hubs is a great way to keep your hub fresh for search engines. EBay listings change, so you never know what exactly will be on your hub, but if you choose your keywords wisely you will have a general idea. Having new content on your hub keeps search engines "interested" in your page.

eBay does three things:

  • The eBay capsule is frequently updated with new items based on your search phrase, so your page stays fresh
  • The titles of the eBay listings can include key phrases and drive traffic from search engines
  • You can earn a small revenue if you are set -up correctly. See below to learn how to set up your affiliate programs.

Adding an eBay capsule is much easier than adding an Amazon capsule, and it's better because your site stays "fresh" for search engines.

1. Click on the "eBay" link under "Revenue Capsules" to the right of your page.

2. Click "Edit".

3. Add a relevant keyword in the "eBay Search" box; try to be as specific as possible, e.g., Williams-Sonoma All-Clad roaster. You can also put in the seller's ID if you choose.

4. Choose how many listings you would like to appear from the drop-down box.

5. Click "Preview eBay Results".

6. Click "Save".

How to add Amazon to your hub

To add Amazon to your hub:
1. In edit mode, click on the "Amazon" link to the right of your page under "Revenue Capsules".
2. An Amazon capsule will be added to the bottom of your page with items that are probably totally irrelevant to what your hub is about. You will need to edit this capsule to make them relevant.
3. Click "Edit" in the Amazon capsule.
4. The "Display Options" tab will be open. If you want to search by keyword (I recommend to try this first) then leave that drop-down box alone. You can also choose how many listings you want to show. I usually choose two or three to not overwhelm the reader.
5. Click on the "Keyword Research" tab. Hubpages automatically puts your title in the keyword box. I would change this to find a more specific item. Use the drop-down box to choose a product area. I have found that when I search in the "all" product area I can never find what I'm looking for. If I were looking for a roasting pan, I would type in "roaster" in the keyword box and "kitchen" in the product area.
6. If you can't find the item you are looking for, but you know that it is for sale on Amazon, try using the ASIN number. Every item on Amazon has a unique ASIN number. Go to your product's page on Amazon. The ASIN number is found in the URL: www.amazon.com/product/ASIN/therest. Copy the ASIN number.
7. Click on the "ASIN Search" tab in your amazon capsule edit mode and paste in your ASIN number. Click on "Preview Amazon Results" to make sure it works.
8. Click "save" and your Amazon capsule should be complete!

Robin, I must be missing something. I have been trying for three days to get my links to work properly and I am failing at every turn. I finally got one link up on e-bay, but when I try to add another my first one disappears. Amazon doesn't even work. I cant figure out WHERE to get the ASIN number, WHERE to put the ASIN phrase --- I am nearly ready to walk away from this entire project, and I have spent time working on four hubs that I think are going to be valuable to people. I am nearly in tears and I really, really need some help. Could you please e-mail me privately at cathedral.veils@hotmail.com and we can talk about this. It would be even better if we could speak on the phone, but most people who communicate on lin do not like to give out their phone numbers, and I understand that. If you could give me a call that would be super. 206-624-8699. Thank you so much!! Shoshana

Hello,

I have a question. When adding an Ebay Hub, do we only put our own listings in the capsule or will Ebay search and fill the capsule with anybody's item for sale and reference that item and if the reader of the hub buys then we get a little something?

I'm pretty new to all of this, thank you for the excellent article!

Hi Mrs. Comrie,

Hubpages automatically puts the title of your hub in the Ebay keyword box.  Many times this is not what you want to have shown on your hub.  For example, if you are writing a hub titled "Enchiladas", Hubpages inputs "enchiladas"in your keyword box.  However, you may want to have listings for enchilada pans on your hub, so you need to delete what Hubpages inputted and write "enchilada pans".

Hubpages now launched a new ad campaign that will automatically add Ebay links to your page in the side margins.  I do recommend putting in your own, too.  This give you control over what you'd like to sell.  I hope that helps.  Let me know if you have more questions.

Oh, I am so glad to find this Hub! I had a devil of a time figuring this out with the Amazon links, did a search, and came up with a lot of hubs that didn't come close to answering the question.

Now that I have the instructions, I'm good up until the very end. I click "Preview Amazon Results" and nothing changes. I thought maybe I should substitute the ISBNs for the ASINs, but still no change. Any ideas?
