Hubpages on a Roll

With the removal of adult hubs on hubpages most of us if not all have noticed a vast reduction in visitors to our pages and a major drop in earnings, Was the removal of adult hubs a mistake?

From the day that the adult hubs were removed, I have been monotoring my hub statistics closely on Google analytics

Since the sudden slump, I estimate that there was around 40% reduction in visitors. But since that reduction visitors have risen by around 10% and getting a few more each day.

The bounce rate of my hubs has lowered by about 10% which means that people who are reading my pages are clicking on more than one of my hubs, which also shows in my page view stats which has jumped from 1.1 page views per visitor to 1.8 views.

Before the change the average time a visitor stayed on any of my pages was around 52 seconds now people are actually taking the time to read them and the average time has leapt to 4mins 33 seconds.

The amount of new visitors has jumped around 10% from 75.10% to 85.12%.

In the long run I think that the removal of the adult hubs will prove to be a wise move made by the team at hubpages, people are starting to come back, and taking more time to read hubs, they are visiting more pages and staying longer than ever before, more and more new people are being directed to hubpages from search engines.

The added bonus of removing adult hubs is the assurance that my children will not be exposed to porn whilst I am browsing through the pages.

Well done Paul and the rest of the team the future looks bright for hubpages and the authors your brave decision to remove adult content looks like being the best decision for all of us in the long run although it may not seem like it at the moment.....jimmy

You are right Jimmy. The traffic is picking up again. For me new visitors has climbed to 90% and the average time spent on site is 5 min 19 secs and pages per visitor have also improved a bit to 1.26. Definitely HubPages is bouncing back. And a whopping 90.5% of the visitors are from search engines! Best Regards

Search engines don't like radical change and it takes a bit of time for things to come back after a big change. Removing adult content, and our accidental duplicate content issue were big changes. We are hoping by the end of September that things will be back to normal.

Thanks for the reassurance Paul,it was rough there for a while but things are slowly but surely falling back into place, the visitors are increasing at a steady rate.....jimmy

I see it as a moral issue regardless of what happen to my readership, I mentioned that a few weeks ago to Paul and congratulated him about his good judgment but he never said anything more about it, so I forgot the matter alltogether.however it is commendable on your part the way you think. Harry

Great Hub Jimmy. Was just wondering though, where do you find all of these stats that you are referring to?

Adult content has harmed sites like myspace, et al. I'm no prude (that's for sure) but 'botted intrusions lower the overall tone. The search engine factor will adjust back to and probably beyond what it was. In the long term we'll benefit from search engine cred and a higher caliber image.

I joined at or around the time the adult content was being removed. There was much talk about it in the forum. So I can't comment on what it was like before, but as it is now, hubpages feels like a community of writers. It's a comfortable place to hang out and contribute.

I fully agree with the removal of adult hubs. In fact if it had continued I think I would have gone elsewhere one day or another: I don't want my hubpages to be mixed with them :)
