How Hubscore Works
88All this information is available around HubPages, in the FAQ or in some cases discussed further in the forum. But rather than send you off on a wild goose chase to find it all I've collated the information to present it here as an easy to find resource.
Please note: This is not an official hub, but it does have quotes and statements by HubPages staff.

What's a HubScore?
We use this to determine the quality of individual Hubs, much like Google ranks popular pages. Many factors contribute to our rating scale of 0 to 100, with 100 being our top score. A HubScore is used to determine your Status.
How is HubScore computed?
- Amount of traffic, including percentage from sources other than HubPages
- The length of the Hub (the more unique writing, generally, the better)
- The uniqueness of content (copying content already available on the Web will be penalized)
- The number of thumbs-up votes from unique users
- The overall quality of the Hubber (author HubScore and Status)
We reserve the right to change the factors used to assess a Hub’s HubScore as we continue to determine those that measure a great Hub.
The bottom line is if you write original, useful content, your HubScores will reflect the quality and work you've put into them.
Traffic affects HubScore
This will give you rough idea of what different HubScores mean in terms of percentile rank across all published hubs. I've also included approximate traffic numbers for hubs in some of the ranges. Traffic is just one of many factors that go into HubScore, but it should give you an idea of the ballpark to shoot for to achieve various levels.
- 96-100 - 99.9 percentile (3000 page views a month)
- 91-95 - 99.3 percentile (2200 page views a month)
- 86-90 - 97.7 percentile (1300 page views a month)
- 81-85 - 94th percentile (900 page views a month)
- 76-80 - 88th percentile (90 page views a month)
- 71-75 - 78th percentile (30 page views a month)
- 66-70 - 65th percentile
- 61-65 - 48th percentile
- 56-60 - 31st percentile
- 51-55 - 20th percentile
Duplication and Plagiarism
There seems to be some confusion, especially in the community here at HubPages, as to what duplication really is.
Find out the differences and how they can effect you as a HubPages Author.
Originality affects HubScore
I'm pleased to announce a new factor that goes into assigning Hubscores. Hubs which largely contain content that can be found elsewhere on the web are now penalized slightly. This should help make the Hubscores better reflect our desire for quality original content.
Some authors who have republished the same content on a bunch of sites will likely see a drop in their Hubscores. But our best authors should enjoy slight lift in their scores as a result of this change. SourceOverly Promotional is when there's a noticeable trend of linking to the same domain/s.
Being Overly Promotional affects HubScore
It is true that too many links to the same site or sites can affect your scores, both on one hub, or across all your hubs. We would prefer that hubs be unbiased and provide links to the best resources on the web. If your agenda is to promote other sites (especially sites of dubious value), unless you are very careful about it you will probably run across one or more of these: 1) your scores will be reduced and many or all of your links will be nofollow, 2) your hubs will be moderated as "overly promotional" and unpublished until repaired, 3) you will be identified as a problem author and all new hubs will have to be reviewed before being published, and finally 4) you will be permanently banned and all hubs unpublished.
Does someone duplicating my content affect my HubScore?
The number of duplicates must reach above a certain threshold before the duplicate penalty kicks in.
If your Hub's content continues to be copied and the dupe checker does assign a penalty (you'll know because it will say so in the top notification pane), then let HubPages know and they can issue an override, since they are 100% certain you are the owner. However, it is in your best interest to make sure that copies don't start stealing your search traffic, so contact the site owner and request them to remove the copy since it was copied without your permission.SourceHubber Score
Some of the things we look at when computing your author score, in no particular order:
- your participation in the HubPages community, such as: reading and commenting on other people's hubs; forum activity; flagging content violations; rating other people's hubs (thumbs up and down)
- total number of published hubs
- the hub scores of your published hubs
- the total traffic across all your published hubs
- how recently you've published
- your fans
Not exactly about HubScore but worth mentioning...
Authors Status
How does HubPages determine an author's Status?
Your Status is determined by a combination of your HubScore and the number of Hubs you’ve created. This system is very important, because it’s our way of ranking the quality of your Hubs, and it ultimately helps us weed out spammers. Look at the chart below. Your Status is designated by the various names in the chart, i.e. “Hall of Fame”, “Rookie”, “Spammer”, etc.
HubScore
# of Hubs 0-24 25-29 30-74 75-100
400 or more Stop Prolific Elite Hall of Fame
100 or more Spammer Producer Very Good All Star
20 or more Rookie Experienced Good Expert
19 or fewer Novice Junior Average Prodigy
Note that simply publishing a lot of Hubs won’t boost your Status. This is to prevent spammers from simply dumping loads of content on HubPages. Spammers tend to pack content full of keywords just to drive traffic to their site. Our HubScore algorithm alerts us to these people, and we automatically lower their HubScore (Note the designation on the chart below labeled “Stop” and “Spammer”, and the corresponding low HubScore.)
To boost your HubScore, your content must be original and useful. A lot of high HubScore Hubs will lead to a higher Status. And if you have a high Status, HubPages will help drive more traffic to your site. High-Status Hubbers bring great value to the Internet community. They reflect well on HubPages, and will be rewarded for their efforts.
Sometimes there's a slight shifting in HubScores for your hubs. Like a boat sitting on the water bobbing up and down. There is a reason for it...
Fluctuating HubScores
One small factor is intentionally assigned completely at random in order to induce some fluctuation into the score. We want the scores to move a little. We also don't publicize every single component of the score, since we don't want to make it easier for or to encourage people to try "game" the system.
Lagging HubScore
Don't get too hung up on HubScore for Hubs that are published within the day or so. HubScores can be on the low end until meaningful data starts to stream in and get computed along with all the other Hubs in the system. We have so many Hubs (over 80,000 at this point) that the computing load has become tremendous and computations for each HubScore aren't instantaneous - there can be a lag.
SourceDo deleted or unpublished hubs lower my HubScore?
Low HubScore Consequences
When the Hubber score (AuthorScore) is below 75 all links in all hubs by the author will have nofollow applied (which means no, or very little benefit in search engine rankings).
We've recently taken the step of applying NOFOLLOW to the links in hubs that have a HubScore below 50*, and to all the hubs of authors with an author score below 75. This negates most of the SEO value of the link. Getting to 40 and 75 isn't too difficult but it requires some participation, and gives us time to ferret out the deviants before they gain much from their behavior.
* The HubScore threshold used to be 50, but it's now 40. The user score threshold remains at 75.
Linking too many times to the same site
1. One link or two to domains that have been heavily "abused" by other Hubbers (like tinyurl.com), in the context of plenty of other "good" links, will not have an effect. However, repeatedly using tinyurl across your Hubs, again and again, will.
2. Links to hubpages.com will not hurt your HubScore.3. You are allowed to publish Hubs with up to 2 links to the same domain. However, you might get a penalty applied to your (published) Hubs if you repeatedly link to that domain across many/all of your Hubs. So: allowed, but HubScore penalized.SourceHow do I improve my HubScore?
This question is often asked in the forum.
My only suggestion is that you write original articles filled with useful information. If Search Engines index it and rank it highly you will have a quality source of traffic like no other.Promote it online, and if it warrants it, offline. It depends entirely on the topic and the audience. There is no one-size-fits-all solution for promoting webpages. The HubScore is a reflection of the success that your hub has accomplished, it is not a step towards success. HubScores fluctuate, so don't hitch your emotions to the numbers on your hub. If you enjoy hubbing then go and research and write content for another one!Find out more about Hubpages

Excellent compilation Darkside! Thank you!
Very useful, Darkside. Thanks for putting it all together!
informative hub ... once again great hubpages how to guide.
very informative, i had no idea about the author status. hehe thanks so much.great hub
This is one of the best HUBS. Excellent.
It sure cleared up some of my questions..Good job..Glad we have so many deversified hubbers on board. I learn something each time I am on here...which is everyday....G-Ma ;o)
Excellent information as I was wondering why my Hubscores go up and down, sometimes within the day.
Darkside! Great HUB! Thank you for putting all this information together. Many of my question answered in one quick swoop.
Excellent, Thanks regards Zsuzsy
Thanks, Great information and a great resource.
Good compilation with perfect analysis. However, I'vw to make comments on Thumbs up and down. I realized that some of the hubbers intentionally rate a hub with a thumb down. This happens when two hubs are on same topic or celebrity by different hubbers. It is, perhaps done by the hubbers to promote their own hub. One of my hub has average 35 daily hits and someone rated it with a thumb down. In my opinion, thumb up and thumb downs should not be considered by the hub staff in deciding a hub score. This is really injustice with hubber.
Great hub for a question everyone needs and wants to know;)
Thanks for compiling all of this for us. Great hub!!
This is really a thorough and comprehensive piece that explains HubScores very clearly and logically. I like it a lot!
pretty much what everyone said - useful and clear Hub. :)
very nice.. well written and informative..
You have answered many of my questions and it's so nice to have it all on one page. You did an excellent job.
Now can you explain to me how to set my VCR? LOL
Helpful information and well-presented. Thank you.
I found this useful. Thanks for the info!
Excellent as always, darkside. My only question is: In what way does HubPages help drive traffic to the sites of hubbers whose scores are high and have "high status"?
Thanks. Very useful info ! I have been wondering about my score.
Excellent. Thanks. Was wondering why my Hubscores were dropping.
I can only create some more echoes! A great read! I just have one question! If you include video links and quotes from other sources, (all acknowledged of course) does that affect your status?
Smiles and Light
Mr Torpey!
I believe the extra exposure on the frontpage, hottest hubs and best hubs will get some additional readers who are just cruising for a good time.
AuraGem, appropriate links and excerpts from other sources shouldn't hurt. Indeed a search engine may look upon it favorably. However their wonderful alogrithms work they could calculate that the quote is within the context of the rest of the content, and the link could be to a site that they have already acknowledged as an authority. Increased prescence in search engines and higher ranking will attract more visitors. And that in turn would increase a hubs hubscore.
This answered a lot of questions for me. Thank you so much.
Thanks Darkside - very useful information and it's nice to see it presented all in one place.
Thanks for the detailed info on HubScores
Great Information. As a new hubber, this is very useful information.
quite useful to me ! thanks !
Very cool!
Very informative Hub. I was very curious about the HubScores, now my questions have been answered before I've even asked them.
Thanks!
Excellent info! I am curious, though as I have a few hubs that I published that I have widely published on the internet before I realized they may hurt my score. Would it help my overal score and status to delete these hubs? Mostly, I mean the ones with hub ratings below 60 that were so widely published before.
Thanks for all this info! It sure answered a lot of my questions!
Bonnie Ramsey
Bonnie, rejig the content!
Do a rewrite. Edit it. Be vicious. Make it better. Maybe even make it different. Use your original article as the basis of a new one. It's surprisingly easy once you get started.
Thanks for the Hub! It is helpful to have a simple explanation of the scores - not all sites are willing to break it down in detail.
Useful way of providing useful 'smallprint' in an informative manner, thanks
Very useful, I have been back several times!
I have also linked to you from my Hub on Online Marketing Using Social Sites. This is just vital information, and well compiled here.
Thanks!
Jenny
Thank you for a great summary article.
Came back to it today, to review something I couldn't remember. Found it without any problem. Thanks again. Valuable info.
Awesome job on explaining that stuff in detail Thumbs up for that. I am also going to direct people from wealthy affiliate to this hub. When I first joined, I didn't think I was going to like it all that much. It seemed kind of strict. It almost seemed like I couldn't promote anything on this site. But since I have gotten used to it and see some of the potential in it, I am really liking it. I have never been big on adsense, but I think hubpages is where I'll make money on that. In addition to qassia of course. :-) Either way I'm getting the word out about this hubpage. Awesome job.
Thank you Darkside. Its so great to have all the info in one central location! Very useful! Steph
Great info darkside.
thanks for sharing this...
Very useful compilation .Nice work !
What you've described in this hub seems to me to be a good description of responsible membership characteristics for any social media site. All too often, people will attempt to take advantage of the benefits of a site without adding any value. I'm glad that HubPages eliminates this opportunity for this particular group of people.
You may want to add "hub" and "score" as tags. I found this page the other day and couldn't find it again until I thought of looking for it as one word...thanks again.
Hello,
Thank you this has helped me a great deal. I wish I had more to add but I'm new.
Garry Nelson
thank You for gathering all this information in one place, and saving me valuable time. Your article was just what I was looking for, but interestingly enough in my travels I found several very good hubs, including yours.
I do have one other issue with Hub ratings. Next to a Hub title there is a number in bold type, to the right in the profile area there is a score notation. These number are similar, but different. Which is the rating, and what does the other mean? Thanks, just trying to figure it all out.
One is the score of the hub, the other is the Author Score.
Thanks for providing this information. It went a long way in helping me to understand the scoring process.
Good info.
The part about he coying websites is good because it will let those copyiers out there know we won't accecpt it any more.
Best Wishes,
Tom Miller
This was indeed helpful. Thx
Thanks for this info. Good work
Thanks, Darksider; this was something I've been trying to better understand.
Thank you for this information. As a new Hubber, I found it very helpful and it helped me to identify some direction.
I see why you have a 97! Excellent hub page!
bobw, the Hubscore fluctuates. But it looks like it's staying firmly in the 90's.
The other day it was 100. Funnily enough, my first ever hub to do so.
Excellent hub! Thank you for the very detailed and helpful information.
From a newbie here...Great compilation of info. Thank you.
Very good compilation hub. Fruitful info! gREAT JOB!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was confused about the scoring. But not anymore. Very informative. Thanks.
Great information. Have you carried out any tests to improve your hubscores ?
As a newbie..very helpful Thank you
Thank you so much Darkside! This has helped me.
Great info on Hub Scores... I didn't know your total number of traffic sources affected your score... interesting! ~ Peter
darkside ... did you used to be a tech writer?
Your hubs are written from the point of view of the user (rather than the programmer). Excellent!
Sheila, while I had no credentials, I have taught in the past. And I've had to deal with people who are techno-phobes. Often having to be the go-between with a tech genius on one side and a computer illiterate on the other. Translating from one to the other, and back and forth. It actually goes both ways, often the computer illiterate are quite clever but explain it in a way that the tech genius does not understand. So it's a bit of dumbing down and also a bit of smarting up.
Thanks for the explanation - it is sure easier to read in one place than try to find the answers all over. Since I am new to this, it explains a lot.
Thanks again!
Thanks again for good information. I look forward to getting to know you here at the Hub!
After reading this, I looked over my stats and it seems that the only ones below 60 are the ones that have had under 20 visits. It doesn'e seem that the duplication hit that hard ( I guess because it is my original work) as most of the low scores are not the articles I had published previously. I guess these are just destined to be my lonely hubs LOL.
Bonnie
A big thank you from a newbie!
Very helpful! Now I can stop muttering to myself, "What the heck are those numbers?"
It is a good work by darkside.I have achieved prodigy status in 2 days, is it good?
Yes, thank you for this info. I was wondering how this worked and you gave a lot of insight. Thanks again.
Thanks for the info. I wondered how this all worked.
I am simply AMAZED!!!
Having just entered the world of Hubs I found this Hub very helpful. I tried searching Google and the forums but didn't turn up much.
Thanks for wirting this :-)
THank you for very good information. Cleared up a few questions.
Blessings
Love this Hub! Although I have read the FAQ's provided by HubPages, for some reason this particular hub sticks with me better. Perhaps you can write a hub on how to create those bookmarked links you have in your Table of Contents section??? Oh wait...maybe you did...I'll read your "Capsules" hub. Thanks!
Thank you for the good information. It clears some of questions regarding hub scores.
Hi lewgard, the Table of Contents is covered in this hub: http://hubpages.com/_learn/hub/tableofcontents
Really useful information. Thanks
Now this is something I really need to know .
You're no garkside, but lightside.
Brillinat presentation and very insightful.
Well done! Darkside.
Thanks for all of the useful info, Darkside. So basically, everyone begins with nofollow links until they prove themselves? I guess that makes sense.
safetyfirst, yes. But it doesn't take long for a person to prove themselves. A day or two for a brand new hubber to get over 75, and after that it'd take just a few hours for each new article to maintain a 50+ hubscore.
Fantastic, I am new to HP and was wondering how this worked, and now I know... thanks a lot!
Thanks darkside. I'm already seeing that. I'm not entirely sure how it all works, but I think I have a handle on it.
Great Information! I did have several questions about this topic but you have answered them all. Thanks
very clear information. i believe that this hub has answered a lot of questions regarding hubpages. well done.
very nice piece of information
It is a real pleasure to read something so condensed and comprehensive, as well.
I know so much more about hub pages, now. Thank you!
Thank you Darkside - I have found this so useful
Excellent resource for new comer.
Great Hub - lots of useful info packed into this one area! I'm pretty new around here and all the info on hubscore I can get the better! Thanks, Dan.
Wow, this is really interesting. I had no idea how it all worked, nor what Hubber score meant or how it was calculated.
Thanks for this!
You have done a neat job for the other hubbers out here. Does the score count on the number of traffic you bring to hubpages (not necessarily to your own hubs)?
Thanks! This is a great introduction to this system. It answered many of my questions.
That answered a lot of my questions. Thank you!
This is probably the most useful hub I have read so far. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for this comprehensive information.
I've just joined hubpages, and was wondering how the numbers worked.
Definitely a hub that should be in the FAQs
Thank you Darkside. I'm a new member and found your page very informative.
I just joined hubpages and wondered about the score and how Icould increase my hub activity. An exellant article.
just what i was looking for. very informatibe to the hubpages newbie
This was very helpful and answered a bunch of questions that I have. Thanks for taking the time to explain. I am looking forward to reading more of your hubs in the future. Thumbs Up
Hi darkside, Nice hub explaining how scores are calculated (and how to get a better score - work harder!). I found hubpages a few weeks ago and just posted my first hub. I am very impressed by how user friendly hubpages is, and also by how much thought went into the ranking system (and how fair it is). I can see that this could get addicting...
Nice Hub darkside!
Thanks for putting this info together! It's fascinating how many factors go into a score...and good to know that everything is considered so carefully.
Wondered about this and had no idea there was a hub on it, wow. Thanks!
Good one!!
Thank you for the info. Being a newbie on hubpages, this hub was a very informative read.
Thank you so much for the informative content.I am new to this arena and pursuing new avenues. The more I understand the better I will perform and greater will be the the rewards both personally and financially. Knowledge is power and I am never too old to learn.
Newbie here, thanks for your info I really needed that
Update: After a day of using your hub's info, my scores went up a lot, thanks :)
As a former test engineer I had to write test procedures that anyone could follow regarless of their tech skill level. When writing for ISO standards I had to take into account those people for whom English was a second language. So I can appreciate your clarity and economy of vocabulary in your helpful topic. You cleared up a lot of mystery. I look forward to hearing more from you. From across the ocean, thanks again.
I must admit that I have now read this hub several times, the first time when I first joined and was trying to figure out what in heavens name was going on. Thanks for all the great information and making it much easier to understand complicated things.
Very well written, I enjoyed reading this article.
I went back and re read this and got even more out of it. Your are a true asset to the hub community. Thanks again.
Thanks very much for such a thorough guide, I will look to improve all of my hubs.
This really helped me out, Darkside.Daniel Tetreault.

Excellent! Now it is all clear to me..
Well, all information is worthfull.
Thanks!
.
great hub! Very informative and helpful for making effective hubs
Great Page - Thanks. Very useful information and I learned a few things about HubScore and AuthorScore.
thank you.this helped me a lot to increase hub score!
How come everytime I added (original) content to my hub I lost some score? Then when I published it I lost even more. Shouldn't I gain since I'm making an original and making sure it is detailed?
Thank you Darkside for this information. It helps to have a summary all in one place.
just the information I was looking for as a new hubber - Thanks for summarizing it - saves the "running around" for info!
Very useful article, Thanks..
Thanks Darkside,
Thats Hubscores sorted for this new hubber, now I just have to figure out the other 9,897,934.00 things.

Great. Lots of my "newbie" questions answered. Thanks!
Yes I would also like answer to Mr Torey question.
Very useful, thanks!
In what way does HubPages help drive traffic to the sites of hubbers whose scores are high and have "high status"?
You have more chances of exposure. A high scoring hub can be featured on the frontpage and Hot Hub. These pages do attract traffic on their own.
Good work indeed. Thank you for sharing your research. Thumbs up.
Thanks. Great explanation.
Very, very useful. I was about to make a HUGE mistake. But now I know better. Thank you.
Great info, Thanks!
Wow! This is excellent information. I see now I have a lot of work to do inorder to get a great score on my first HubPage. I am new to this so you will see something from me soon!

Thank you very much from a Hubpages newbie...I need this information!
THanks for this. It's a satisfying and useful explanation of hubscore and its elements. Much appreciated.
Great information. Thank you for publishing this. I am always afraid of doing something wrong. This will help as a reference.
This piece helps to aswer some of the questions I have on how things work with Hubs. I printed it out for future reference. Thanks for the information.
Very well written and downright great hub. I just like most was probably wondering how it all worked. Thanks.
Great advice for new hubbers. Thank you!
I'm a new hubber, so this was a huge help - thank you!
Much clearer than the official FAQ :)
I hear being active on the website also helps
This has been super helpful. Thanks.
Yes, great information..but a little vague on the same domain listed across many hubpages. what would the penalty be..tough to calcualte I guess.
I was just wondering how you made the text clickable so that it automatically scrolled down to the right area...?
This is an excellent compilation of answers to questions I'd been wondering about. Thanks Darkside. Much appreciated!
Thanks for the information. I am very new to this, but I am finding it enjoyable! I have read a few of you pages and found each on very useful.

Thanks for this article. It has help answer some of my questions.
Plenty of information here to read and inwardly digest. Now I am beginning to understand ,this will improve my game ,Thanks ,am bookmarking this page.
I enjoy your hub. I was wondering how this works. Thanks for some helpful information.
I should have read this before i began. Why not put it on the front page....oh, I forgot, I need to participate.
In the end, the message is always the same isn't it . . . don't try to beat or abuse the system, just be original and write great content and everything will work out just fine!
Thanks for the explanation. I've been linking to related Squidoo lenses that I have, but I think I'll limit that based on this hub.
Based on my small stay till now, I was able to understand some of the aspects but this really puts everything in a perspective. Thanks a lot. :)
I'll keep these things in mind next time before starting a new hub.
This is a very helpful article. I have just published my first hub and am trying to learn how to increase my hub score.
Thanks,
I will come back and read this again! Very informative information to someone who is new to Hub Pages.
This was very helpful. I think this will be in the back of my mind whenever I am trying to write a hub.
Very useful information, Darkside. You've shed a lot of light on the mystery of scoring!
Well that was thoroughly explained and provided me with much needed knowledge, clarity and understanding. Thanks so much..:)
So much to learn, so few viable gray cells left to learn it with. I'll struggle through. Thanks for the great info!
Thanks Darkside, your hub are very informative and have been my main source for learning Hubpages.
Thank you, Darkside, for this hub. It shows alot of time and effort.
Good tips there, cheers my friend
Wonderful insight and explanation, thanks for helping a newcomer!
Thanks for the explanation. Very helpful.
Score one for darkside hitting a good (needed) niche with this article.
Thanks for the help.
Darkside, I appreciate your efforts to bring all this great information under the heading of one Hub. It really reinforces my sense that HubPages has developed a very good system for rewarding authors who have something worthwhile to contribute and who work hard at it, while discouraging authors whose work reflects an obvious lack of personal effort and/or helpful content.
Hi Darkside,
Fantastic!
awesome!
It has given all information Me and many other hubbers needed. Thumbs up!
Thanks for an excellent hub.
Jyoti Kothari
Learnt from that, cheers.
Well, I'm sure you heard it already, but great hub.Team Wiseman
Thanks , great info. I always write unique hub, but still my author and hub score is lower than expected? what is problem?
Very useful information. Content is king as usual.
Nice lot of information for a newbie all in one place.
Useful information to a new hubber. Thank you
Excellent information. Thank you.
I've been reading a lot of your hubs for newbies and they've been really helpful. Thank you! :)
Really good Hub. There's a lot here that I never realized (and I'm not new here). Thanks for taking the time to put it together.
Excellent Hub. Very informative and very well constructed.
well i learn something from your hub. Thanks
Now I know how the system works. I joined Hub Pages to write, and I joined on the recommendation of someone I highly respect.
I joined without understanding the finer points, and even the less finer points. I had also been told that I can make money here.
Till now I have simply had fun writing and getting to know other hubbers. This article is opening my understanding as to what Hub Pages is really all about. I do want high ranking and high hubscore. Now I know what I have to do.
Thanks darkside. Thumbs up.
Thank you, I really appreciated the info about author status.
~Jen
Thanks for clearing up some mysteries of Hubbing. Thank you for the enlightenment.
Darkside, I never knew those exact traffic numbers. Thanks.
That was very informative!
thanx!
great information...clarified a few things for me...thanks : )
I am a new hubber (2 hubs), both scores are over 70. My author score is 78. How long does it take for no follows to be removed?
@dusy7969, hubs have to be at least 45 (it used to be 50, unless they've changed it back again) and Author Score of 75. So your links aren't nofollow any more.
The traffic breakout by percentile ranking was something that's new to me, and is quite enlightening. Surprising that about 3/4 the hubs don't even average one view a day.
Really helpful to find all this detail on one page. Will save me time trying to find information in different help sections. Great!
Thanks for the great information - I just joined today and I'm trying to absorb as much as possible. Thanks!
Thanks for this info.
I've been joined for 8 days, have 6 hubs all original content from my own experience and was wondering why my author score had dropped 10 points overnight without me doing anything.
I now realise that just happens and a few ides on how to get it back.
Thanks for all the great information!! Much Appreciated
Thanks for the guidance. Good information.
Great info thanks for sharing it with your fellow hubbers...
THANK YOU. I STARTED THREE WEEKS AGO.YOU MADE YOUR INFORMATION SO SIMPLE THAT I CAN REALLY UNDERSTAND IT .YOU DESERVE THE BEST.YOU ARE HELPING US BE SUCCESSFUL IN HUBBING.THANKS.ENJOYING THE JOURNEY.PEACE.
Just what I was looking for, thanks!
Perfect explanation of a complicated thing I will never understand...
I took from it..
Write a lot of original content, meke some great frineds here, support others, and don't worry about the technical stuff if you do these things.
Ah! Things are much clearer to me now. Thx for this helpful hub. I've been enjoying and learning from your other 'how to' and 'help' hubs for a little while but just now, became a fan!
That did answer many of my questions, I guess my problem is, is that I don't get much outside traffic
Thanks for all the very useful tips - I often wondered how people got to the top - it seems like the number of visitors is crucial
Thanks - I'm trying to 'get' hubpages and this helped a lot.
Thanks for the information, it helped a great deal.
Speaking of 'traffic' I've been getting about 2500 page views (except one time when I got 14,000 page views in a week when my score rose to 95) a month and still my score falls to 85. I wonder why that happens. My hubs are not overly promotional or duplicate.
Extremely informative article...thanks!
thanks. This really explained some things, outlined in a way I could follow.
This was really helpful in understanding how Hubpages works. I signed up a long time ago and only now am I turning my attention to writing hubs.
great information on how to keep my hubscore, I rarely participate in forums but will change and be active
Awesome info. I am new to Hubpages and this info is of great value to me.
Thanks for putting all of this info together. This was a big help.
Even though a lot of people have already said this...Thank You! This has really cleared things up!
Great advice, I'm new at the hubbing thing and am intriqued by the whole process. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the help.
Thanks for all the information. Wow, Ive never seen a hub as 100! Cool :)
thanks for a valued hub, i was looking for this info.
Thank you, this hub had the answer that I needed and I was able to find it through Google before posting a question in the forums. The links to past forum topics are very helpful, I'm glad that HP staff chimed in on the issue in the past and that it wasn't just speculation.
Thanks for putting this together! Cleared up a few questions i had. nice work
Thank you for putting together this page it really helped me get my head around Hubscores as
I am very new to Hubpages. It's good to know how these things work so thanks for this. Very well put together. Worth every cent....hang on it was free lol
Thanks for that, easy to read and really useful, cheers.
nice tips. i will build more nice and more hubs
Thanks for the information, it is really helpful.
Super helpful "hubs at a glance". Thanks for taking the time to spell it all out!
I do have a question still about links that are to other hubs. Does the rule apply if you repeatedly link to the same hub on different hubs?
This has been bugging me for sometime and can't seem to find the answer. I understand that linking to sites outside of hubpages is penalized but what about on hubpages, that is not to an official hubpages.com page?
@Sandra, my hubber score is currently on 90, though it usually sticks to around 95. And hits 100 occasionally. Keeping that in mind, I do link to my own hubs a LOT. In fact HubPages HQ encourages people to link to their own hubs (they want two links to similar themed hubs when you make each Capstone serial hub, and the Capstone hub itself must link to all 15 hubs).
But I do think the important thing is to 'stay on target'. By that I mean, keep it within the same topic. Don't throw in a random link to hub that has subject matter that is completely unrelated to the content in the hub you're working on.
Awesome, thank darkside for clearing that up, plus the capstone thing to boot.
Hi, I have published 9 hubs, with a score between 63 and 75. The total number of pageviews is 290. What does this mean in money and when shall I know about earning money or not?
thank you.
Hubscore is no reflection of money and vice versa. Hubscore can be an indication of content quality, but as long as they're over 50, it's fine. You'll need more visitors if you want to be able to earn decent money.
Great, great, great info and all in one place. Thank you.
Thanks for all of the awesome information. Great work.
I was just wondering how a Hub score was calculated. Very informative, thanks!
Thank you for this and all the other helpful hubs Darkside. I am sort of new about a month and I am reading and reading your hubs and all the other hubpage hubs by the other authors. I wrote two hubs only so far and they are original. My hub score is 88 and one hub is scored 86 the other 78at this point. It seems good for a beginner but nobody has left any comments so far. I am wondering if anybody has read then at all. I guess this happens a lot. It takes time for someone new to get noticed. And I guess I have to do some promoting. What advise can you give me?
this hub itself speaks how to create a good hub!
Very informative, thanks
Thanks a lot. I learned a ton here and understand hubscore a whole lot better. Thanks for taking the time and putting in the effort to make such a great hub!
Ah! Now I understand!
Just read the forum post 'how to improve hubscore'. I'm glad i read this informative hub. Was never sure of the criteria the scores were based on, but knew there must be a basis. Its good to have this form of score determination. Lets you know if you are doing something right (or wrong!).
Thanks for this great hub. Bookmarked.
Very insightful, you have unraveled some of the mystery.
excellent post, I've been wondering how this thing is calculated, and finally I got a comprehensive post about it. Thanks again.
Thank you! So helpful not be be on a wild goose chase. I am new and the numbers we confusing to me. Now I know what I am aiming for numberwise, and I know not to expect anything immediately (I only have one lonely little hub, but I have mad plans for many more.) I just wanted to make sure I was on the right track before I got too deep, but perhaps I am over thinking it. So thanks for the statistical reassurance that it's not because I suck, it's because I am new!
This is excellent - thank you for all the effort you put into this!
Thanks for this info. Nice to have it all in one place.
WOW! Darkside that was one great read for a newbie like me. I just have to thank you for this Hub and I would like to also send thanks out to Frogdropping's hub 'We Love Cool People' without which I would never have found my way here. Your fan list just grew by one more ;) I have found that there is so much help information around here that one can get lost before getting a clear picture. This hub was not only informative and concise, it has me wanting more!
Nice information for a new hubber like me. Now I understand how the hubscore works. Thanks!
I'm glad to say I've been enlightened. Thanks for writing this very useful hub. I'll start breathing now ;).
Great info into the "blackbox" of HubScore.
Thanks for the info! My hubber score tanked for some reason and I think, after reading this, that it's just that my hubs are so new, there's not much traffic yet. I think I'm doing everything else okay.
Sophia
Great info! Thanks!
Hello
This is fantastic information. I appreciate your wisdom and it has helped me a lot. Many thanks. J
I am very new to this hub page, and you made it all very clear! Thanks!
Your information is always so clear cut and worthwhile. Thank you from a new hubber who is aiming for my first 75 rating!
That's very useful information. Now I know what I need to do to get both my hubs and myself ranked higher. Thanks!
Now I finally know what I need to do to raise my hub and author score :) Thank you!
good wealth of information..thanks a lot for writing and sharing
Great!
This Hub is packed with really useful information.
Thanks :)
This is a pretty brilliant resource you have put together, thank you. now i am going to go write a couple more hubs today. I have been neglecting the HP lately... i am sorry! :)
Ah what one learns when one takes the time to read. Even though I am not really into scores as much as I am in just getting what I feel is helpful information out, it is nevertheless interesting. Thank you!
Brilliant - exactly what I was looking for, thank you!
Very useful information about the scoring system. I especially appreciate knowing how the scores relate to SEO. Thanks!
Great hub, thanks. It seems that hubpages has a pretty good system in place that promotes useful and entertaining hubbers. Makes you want to write a new hub!
Excellent article, thanks!
Thanks Darkside, I've been comparing my progress to another user who joined around the same time as me. This hub really helped keeping me on track with my article writing strategy. Thumbs up :)
Thanks DS. I read your piece at ne time and I was freshly new and I bookmarked it. I think that was good I did so, because now that I return to it, coupla months since joining, I understand it better.I still am in the process of reading it, and I hope to cull some gems as i read on. Very useful and important hub this one. thanks again.
It's really helpful to read all of this in one place as I learn to write high-quality hub pages. Thanks!!
very useful information - there's so much to learn it can all be a little overwhelming - but you do explain things in a way that even I can grasp!!!!
This is just what I needed. Thank you soooooo much! x
Thank you very much Darkside...I am new to hubpages and have/had many questions regarding the scores that I keep seeing for my hubs. You took care of all of them so again I say thank you!
I have a question about the multiple links to a single domain (or groups of domains).
What if I am putting together an article on a specific topic, for example building a WordPress theme, and have multiple links to the documentation as I mention different aspects of creating the theme? These would all be pointing at codex.wordpress.org, but it wouldn't be spammy.
Similarly, what if I put up a group of hubs that link to various YouTube videos with a discussion of what I like/don't like about the video?
Is this a question that I should be asking in the forums rather than in the comments? I suspect that I probably should. Am I allowed to answer my own questions like this? Is it a sign that I've lots my marbles? Probably 8=)
LoneWolfMuskoka, if it's a site like say wikipedia, or youtube or something that's recognised as being legitimate and not owned by you, you could do it and it may not trip the filter (I think I've seen that mentioned once, but don't quote me on it). If it does then you can contact the team@hubpages.com and they can check out the hub manually. The worst they can do is say no.
Thanks darkside. I will keep that in mind.
Thanks for writing this Hub. I am new here and I need all the help I can get. Thanks again!
Welcome Gamer Girl. I had to do a double take, your name seemed familiar.
Really? Oops. I hope I didn't steal someone's name. Thanks for responding!
Here's who I thought you were: http://hubpages.com/profile/gamergirl
Great hub, thanks for putting it all together!
very helpful! Thank you!
Thanks - clears up alot! I am new to the Hubpages and after getting a couple of good scores for my first ones noticed the next coming down. It seems that this might be because of:
1. Although only a couple of different links in each Hub they are to the same sites for every post; and
2. Possibly the content subject has been covered a lot - I will be checking this (and therefore participating in the Hub - before futuer posts.
Many thanks for the guidance!
Thank you so much! I was wondering about the Author Score... And now I know. Thanks for the help!
One of the most useful things I have read on the Internet in a long time. Excellent writing and extremely professional.
Well done!
AWESOME, THANK YOU! Kimberly
thankyou i found that vey helpful
Now I have been hubbing more, I have come back to refresh. I now understand it a lot more than the first time. It looks like I am learning! Good to refresh.
I think I have been penalised and don't seem to raise my hubscore from 74, making it impossible to be successful here. Will my score be reviewed and be more appropriate now I have actioned what I think may have been the problem? I linked myspace, twitter and facebook from all my hubs - I think this is what has penalised me, now I have re-read your article. Am I tarnished forever or will my score change?
I appreciate your words of wisdom x
Linking to those three sites constantly could have been a contributing factor to a lower HubberScore. Just give it a couple of days and see if it picks up now that you've changed it.
Finally I see the light! Thanks!
This is a great post. How come it only scores 89?
:-)
You are to be commended for the BEST hub about Hubpages. This information is soooo helpful - thank you!
Another Great Hub as usual. You are by far the best Hub writer here! and I mean that. Very informitive and looks very professional!
Great, great, and great. Clear, clean and easy to understand. Very nice, and for a beginner like me very needed.
Very useful information. I signed up for Hubpages about a year ago and for whatever reason didn't do anything with it...but I'm sorry I didn't. From a blogging perspective this is definitely a better avenue for it. In just a short time the traffic I'm getting here far surpasses traffic I was getting at my former blog site.
Even if write a flag ship hub,I make a 1500 word hub page with 3 videos, 5 images, publish 10 hubs, 10 links and a news capsule. Then I have to do all this other activity, post in hub forums, read hubpages and rate comments and ask hubbers to be a fan of mine. This seems like a lot of work for a do follow link.
Any way around all this work?
It just seems like a lot of work.
Finally i got what i was looking for.
Hubscore reduce if too much link to other site even you have a good content!
