There is a class action filed against Innova for false advertising.
At first glance I feel like Natura looks like a great choice in pet foods. (comment deleted)
I would feed Innova with caution. Keep a watchful eye for any adverse reactions to this seemingly healthy pet food.

My roommate and I are going to try and switch our pets to homemade food. I am just worried that we still need to have a back up dry food. We live in area where we have to evacuate frequently due to hurricanes. If there is a power outage I think we need to be sure there is food that could sustain our pets for possibly a few weeks. However, I don't know if we would just be counteracting our efforts if we still have to give them not so great can or dry commercial foods? Cats tend to be sensitive to changes in their food. If we somehow manage to get them to switch over to a home made food completely then at a later date would have to give them the commercial food it might make them sick. I am trying to decide or find the best commercial food to use as a back up. The pet stores here don't sell Orijen so maybe this food would be a 2nd choice.
As for human foods - that's one of the reasons I changed to a raw vegan diet! Yes, most of the problem is that people don't realize what they are eating but sadly I've met many that do and simply won't make the effort to change. It involves too much effort. Convenience of junk is their choice. Let us know when you start a site on human foods! We've learned so much from you concerning our pet foods. I'd love to see your take on the human side!
Leslie,
I understand you would like a back up plan for the pet foods. I would love to be able to find something I am comfortable with to feed to my little family members.
You have just came up with another video idea! I can some of my pet foods. I freeze most of the foods but canning the stuff is very easy. I also make dry dog food and cat food (the cats aren't very happy about it - will do in a pinch).
Canning is so easy. I just put the pet food in a canning jar, using proper canning procedures, filling the jar about 2/3 rds full. Place the jar, pet food, lid and ring - all ....... in the oven! I have several jars that can go in the oven at one time (as many as the oven can hold on a single rack), bake for an hour, then set the jars out on the counter to cool. Lasts for ever! Ok, it doesn't last for ever because I usually feed this stuff in a pinch.
Since you have such barameter changes you will want to leave the ring on the jar after the canning is complete.

Canning! What a great idea, never would have thought of that. That is perfect for a video. I have never canned anything in my life. I do remember my mother canning but I never watched. It's such an awesome idea to do this and the making pet foods as a video series. Getting a good visual I think helps more than simply reading the instructions.
Leslie,
I'm glad you never watched your mother can because if you had you would be trying to dig out a bunch of tools and equipment you don't need!
I need some ideas on a name for the video series and a "sign-off" at the end. I told Ann I am not biting my butt or switching my tail for anyone! LOL
Susan
LOL! If you bite your butt I bet you would be a Internet star in no time! Both our mother's canned and made jam but neither one of us ever learned how. We look forward to your videos!
Leslie,
I have spent the better part of 5 days working on purchasing a domain, getting a site set up and doing tons of research in the area of cat health. You girls have really helped to encourage this leap.
I should have the site up and running in a few days or so. Seems like the wheels of progress turn real slow. I want the site to be the best it can be so I've had to learn a lot of techy type stuff to get this thing going. I'm a bit of a do-do in this area, the time it takes to get a site up and running (about 48 hours per step) and my learning at a snails pace has me a bit nervous.
The new site is called PetFoodDangerGauge.com. You probably can't see anything yet but that will be the new address.
Susan
I am not sure but it seems like the packaging of California Natural use to specifically state "Human Grade" I think the current labels do not use this term anymore. Interesting!

If the class action suit is based simply on the ads use of "human grade or safe for human consumption" I am not sure if that alone would be bases for alarm. Sure, if it's not a true statement that isn't fair but I would be more concerned if the suits were based on the food causing illness in pets. Twisting the truth is certainly wrong but soooo many ads do so. This product wasn't for human use in the first place. However, it shouldn't lead the customer to think their pet food is the same quality as human food. Then again some of the junk people eat is probably way worse than this.
