Ask Susan Peters Cat Food Review

I have trouble getting behind a pet food which the company has a class action filed against them for false advertising.

Natural Flavor. (comment deleted)

Chicken Fat - Because manufacturers need to ensure that dry foods have a long shelf life (typically 12 months) to remain edible through shipping and storage, fats used in pet foods are preserved with either synthetic or "natural" preservatives. Synthetic preservatives include butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), propyl gallate, propylene glycol (comment deleted), and ethoxyquin. Animal fat is used to entice your pet to eat a product which they normally would not eat.

California Natural Dry Cat and Kitten Food is made with only five Pure & Simple ingredients to meet the needs of your special cat. The wholesome, healthful ingredients in California Natural are the key to your cat's good health, good coat, and good digestion.

California Natural Cat and Kitten Food utilizes real chicken meat and chicken meal as its primary components. The whole brown rice in the formula is a high quality source of carbohydrates and natural fiber, while flaxseed and sunflower oil supply Omega 3 and Omega 6 Essential Fatty Acids for healthy skin and silky coat.

Hi. Thanks for sharing these information with us.

Here in Japan, Us/Eu brands are very popular but not all brands are available on the market. I've been feeding my cats 'California natural, dry' for the past few yrs. Is California natural safe to feed? If not, which brand would you recommed? Since I have very limited option, I guess I have to choose one from the below:

California natural, Innova, Nature's variety, Natural life, Precept plus, Nature's logic, Orijen

I thought I might give Orijen a try, but thought twice as the protein is little too high for my senior cat.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could advice me on this. Thanks.

PS (I sent same question to your email. I'm sorry for the duplication)

Yumi,

For a commercial pet food I think what you are feeding is just as good, if not better, than most brands. If you have to use a "back up" food go for the Orijen. I like the use of the extra meat in Orijen but I don't care for some of the other ingredients. If you cat is doing well on this - stick with it.
