The HUMMER of the future is coming. The new Hummer HX is on its way. After the long wait the vehicle was brought out by the company at the DETROIT 2008 car show. It was really a surprise when the first model of the vehicle was unveiled.

More compact than the Hummer H3 at 81 inches wide and with a 103 inches wheel base the HX concept is modular, an open air, two door all terrain vehicle. Laying the new way for innovation, the HX concept incorporates an E85(85% Ethanol and 15% gasoline) Flex Fuel 3.6L SIDI V-6, which is backed by a 6 speed automatic transmission. The HUMMER HX is easily convertible. This feature includes removable roof panels, flender flares and doors. With this new very useful feature the HUMMER HX easily gets accustomed to varied trail conditions, cargo needs and passenger whims.

The Hummer HX carries a purposeful aesthetic with its beauty lying in its functional austerity.The exterior seems so lightweight which is very evident from the appearance of its exposed, billet aluminium suspension components. This features CNC - machined lightening relieves. Also it gives minimal trim and unadourned bodywork.

One of the most important exterior feature of the Hummer HX is its removable roof panels, roof assembly, fender flares and doors.

Unlike the classic Hummer design cues, the new HX can easily be recognized with the round headlamps which is located in square housings, an upright windshield profile,hood vent, prominent air and minimal overhangs. The purpose of the air intakes is not only to give a look to the vehicle but also to feed the V-6 engine beneath the hood with air and the the hot underhood air is allowed to escape through the hood wents.

The HX also features HID headlamps. This has got focusing rings which automatically adjusts when the headlight is turned on. The HX is the first hummer to incorporate LED technology for the front turn signal lamps and the tail lamps

The interior of the HX is highly inspired by the functional and lightweight elements of aircrafts.The aeronautical parts are designed such that they are lightweight and strong. When you enter the cabin you will feel the purpose of the vehicle. The floor is rubberized and it has got ballistic nylon - materialcovering on the panel.

The HX seats are made like those of an aircraft. This done to make it lightweight. It is constructed on a lightweight frame which has minimal components and lightening holes. They also have strength enhansing cross braces or triangulations. These seats are mounted on exposed aircraft style tracks and they are trimmed with weather resistant neoprene material. The HX can comfortably seat four people and it also has two bucket seats in the second row. It is possible to remove the rear seats and enables to increase the cargo space.

The center console of the vehicle offers good storage space and it has got a a shifter that mounts low and out of the way when the vehicle is parked. This also has a spring loaded cover. This pops up when the driver is ready to change the gear. It also has space to house MP3 players and mobile phone. The vehicle has got a radio and integrated speakers and also you can plug in your MP3 Player via a USB cable.

Even though the HX is smaller than the Hummer H3, it maintains its offroad capabilities. The changable body of the Hummer HX enables an openair driving experience that adjusts to the trail conditions, cargo space required and passenger requirements. The Hummer HX has got removable roof panel above the driver and front passenger and a modular, removable rear roof assembly. With all these removed the vehicle is transformed into a true convertible. This can be configured as an SUT, a traditional wagon like design and a stylish slant-back.It also has removable doors and removable fender flares.

The HX has a three element guage cluster that delivers crucial driver information. These guages uses LCD screens which has multiple layout with a navigation system.This new system has a GPS and compass information that can upload trail information before setting out for a journey.

There is a speedometer and a tachometer housed in the center guage pod. This also changes to a wheel angle indicator when the vehicle runs on a low transmission position. When the vehicle moves from highway to off-road mode, it gives the driver information on the driving conditions. Also the trail view can be seen on the instrument panel using a camera mounted on the rear-view mirror.

The off-road mode of the instrument panel shows the virtual tools of the Hummer HX.Other tools like flash light, first aid kit and folding shovel are mounted for physical use.

The Hummer HX is the most compact among other Hummer models. There is an electronic-disconnecting stabilizer bar in the front suspension that enhances its operationability when off-road. The rear suspension of the Hummer HX is located with CNC-machined billet training arms. Heavy duty shocks with piggybag reservior one mounted on each wheel position that ensures a smoother drive.

The HX is pulled over and around off-road obstacle by a full time 4WD system.The system transfers torque to both rear and front axles each having a locking differential. The torque meets trail using 35 inch trail offroads tyres mounted on bead-lock style wheels with two tone appearance.
