The Hungarian business culture is very much like the Western type of business culture, therefore I will describe it only in brief.

Making Appointments

Just as in the Chinese culture, being late for appointments are considered rude in the Hungarian culture too, and one who does not stick to the set appointments will not be taken seriously. You should also contact your partner in advance if you know in advance that you will not be able to make it at the pre-set date and time.

Conversation

When you don’t agree with something during a conversation with a Hungarian, in opposite to the Chinese practice, you should express it so, however be sure that you do it in a polite and not in an offending manner.

In the beginning of a convesation with a Hungarian also you should start with general small talk, however this does not take to much time. The major purpose of this is to relax the situation.

Addressing others with respect

Just as in the China, you should also address your partner using the appropriate title and then the first name.

Gift-Giving

The protocols of gifting is not so strict as in China, however here too, you should not give too expensive gifts. Giving fine, corporate pens and schedulebooks are tipical presents given to Hungarian companies.

Deal-Making

When you are making deals in Hungary, for the most important decisions one negotiates with the managment of the company. Breaches of contracts are considered illigal and a serious offence.

Entertaining For Business Success

Officially this is done at banquetes, but the decisions are made at meetings. Generally speaking in Hungary means of business entertainment are ways that one can develop his/her connections.
