Hunger In America
Feeding America should be the main job of the faith based community but unfortuntly in most of the USA it is only at Christmas time that the faith based community really plays a part. There for it is left to others to try to make up the differnce.
People should know and understand that there are eleven more months to the year and that hungry and homeless people need help all of the year not just at Christmas time.
It is also really sad that we have as many hungry people as we do in a country that is rich as the USA. Over all there are said to be 38 million hungry people in America and 14 million of them are children. How can this be in this country and you know I have not heard one of the presidential canidates mention hunger yet. How can this be. They should forget all the political in fighting that goes on and focus instead on the hungry , the homeless and people with no health insurance.

Feeding America
A great many Americans are forced to choose between paying the house rent or buying food. Or buying medicine or buying food. Hunger is very real. Most likely there are hungry people including children with in a few miles of where you live. You may be able to walk in the kitchen and make a sandwich but a lot of Americans can't.
And huge amounts of food goes to waste because greedy corporations like Walmart chooses to throw food away in dumpsters instead of giving it to organizations that would use the food to feed hungry people. Be sure that you check out our petition on this issue. CLICK HERE TO SEE IT

How Can You Help
1. Sign our petition above asking grocery stores to stop putting food into dumpsters.
2. Write to Walmart at
Walmart Corporate Offices
702 SW 8th Street
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
Bentonville, Arkansas 72716-8611
Ask them in your letter or postcard 1. Why does Walmart throw food into dumpsters that could be used to feed hungry people. 2. Why can Walmart not donate that food to feed hungry people. 3. Ask them to please give you a real answer and not a form letter reply. Consider asking all your family and friends to write to Walmart also.
3. Buy milk for your local homeless shelter. If there are children there ask that the milk goes to the children. Consider volunteering there.
With those three steps you can help to change the world. And if you can encourage two other people to do the same you will see real results from your action. If you want to make it a project getting people to write Walmart that would be really great. The more people we can get to write Walmart the better the chance that they just might do the right thing.

Wonderful hub, crazyhorsesghost. The hungry and the homeless are the forgotten Americans. People would rather not talk about them, and the government would like to forget them entirely. The big financial firms get bailed out when they run into difficulties, but the poor and the hungry are on their own. As you note, they are also forgotten in the political campaigns of McCain, and even Obama. The poor and hungry have no lobbies, no advertising campaigns, no political muscle. Depending on Walmart to give the poor a break, however, is like depending on George W. Bush to cut taxes for the middle class. This is a subject that calls for greater action by good people everywhere -- and by the government.
