Hypertension is a condition wherein the pressure of the blood within the blood vessels is higher than normal as it circulates through the body.

High blood pressure is a silent killer since its presence does not produce unpleasant symptoms in the beginning, nevertheless when the time pressure increases and is constant, it starts to change organs like the heart by making it work excessively.

  1. Systolic pressure - is the highest pressure reached in the blood stream as the heart forces blood out.
  2. Diastolic pressure - the pressure when the heart is at rest, filling with blood for the next beat.

Sphygmomanometer (blood pressure cuff) - is the instrument / machine that measure the blood pressure of a person. The normal ratio is 120/80.

When the systolic pressure exceeds 150 or the diastolic exceeds 90 for a sustained period of time, damage is being done in the body.

High blood pressure can force the heart muscle to enlarge, as it works harder to overcome the high resting (diastolic) pressure. When blood is expelled, this enlargement can produce irregular heartbeat or heart failure.

Causes of High Blood Pressure :

  • Overactive thyroid
  • Female hormone (estrogen and oral contraceptives).
  • Certain heart abnormalities.
  • High Sodium Diet.
  • Anguish
  • Nervousness
  • Emotional imbalances

Recommended Supplement, Vitamins and Minerals :

  1. Garlic - improves circulation, strengthens capillary walls, prevents and dissolves blood clots.
  2. Omega 3 - contains polyunsaturated fatty acids, EPA, GLA. Omega-6,9 . Improves circulation, prevents and dissolves blood clots.
  3. Vitamin A (Betacarotene), Vitamin E +Selenium - anti-oxidant, anti-coagulant, dilates blood vessels, improves circulation, strengthens capillary wall, prevents.
  4. Lecithin - this element dissolves blood clots in the veins, emulsifies fats and cholesterol, and then takes these fats to the liver for transformation.
  5. Vitamin C - powerful antioxidant, strengthens immune system.
  6. Ginseng - helps to prevent nervousness and stress.
  7. Multi-minerals - needed for proper composition and function of the body.

It is convenient to increase the intake of potassium, calcium and vitamin-D since this will cause the body to dissolve the sodium content in the body.

Stress or tension causes the veins to contract, becoming smaller. This provokes an increase in pressure (this is the reason why we become pale when we are scared). The type of people with a high stress level should make a change in their nutrition, and exercise daily.
