Hypnotherapy and its use today
Today, hypnotherapy is often sought out by people to help change an unwanted behaviour, emotion, urge, habit or way of thinking.. Hypnotherapy has many success stories and is most effective for issues of stress, anxiety, worry and tension.
Hypnotherapy can be applied in a number of different ways. Suggestion by hypnosis is most common and generally forms a part of any hypnotherapist's approach to helping someone. Regression hypnosis, which is the deliberate encouragement for the person to recall past upsetting events and then the resolution of those memories is another form of hypnosis. Hypnoanalysis is more a free thinking process similar in nature to Freud's free association.
Despite hypnotherapy having amazing results which can still baffle the hardened critic, there is nothing magical about it. Hypnotherapy is not for everyone but for many people it can prove to be the most effective form of help.
As our understanding and acceptance of the effectiveness of hypnotherapy grows, it is increasingly being used to aid a plethora of disorders from psychological or emotional issues to physical conditions such as IBS (Irritable Bowel Disorder). Just the natural relaxed effect that hypnosis brings is often enough to bring relief or at least some reduction in the physical or psychological problem.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is therapeutic process that occurs when a person is in the state of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a similar experience to being in a daydream. Hypnosis is often to referred to as "trance".
Historically, evidence can presumed that hypnosis and its intentional use has been around for thousands of years. Sleep temples and other intriguing practices from Greco-Roman society can support the view that hypnosis in some form or another has been known about for some time.
During Victorian times hypnotism as opposed to hypnotherapy was the order of the day. James Braid and Hippolyte Bernheim and others would employ direct suggestion and probably adopt an authoritarian role. Symptom removal by suggestion and other therapeutic applications have been recorded as well as some reliance on aversion therapy.
