My list of the best dry dog foods which are hypoallergenic changes as new products come out and are developed. Today I am reviewing two dog foods that have been on the market for a while and are readily available in the United States. The two dog foods are California Natural, herring and sweet potato and Eagle packs.

California Natural has an extensive list, at their website, of the ingredients that are contained in this particular food. Also what vitamins and minerals are used as well as how the food is preserved. California natural has several varieties of foods and in this review I am only reviewing the herring and sweet potato variety. I have fed that to my own dog and have had very good results. The food is very basic and simple the ingredients are herring ,and sweet potato with the addition of fatty acids and oils such as flax seed and canola. California Natural uses natural preservatives, which means a shorter shelf life but a fresher product. I would recommend this food for any dog to try and especially if your dog has a food allergy.

The next brand which is popular is Eagle Pack This company lists itself as a natural and holistic dog food producer. They also have a statement of their ingredients and also mention that they do not dilute their food with water or generic white fish and mention several times that no soy is used in their foods. Despite what many people have been led to think soy is not good for dogs.

The meats Eagle Pack uses are very impressive, grass fed lamb, free range chicken, and duck; all antibiotic and additive free. They do use grain in some of their foods. The grains are listed and are stated to be herbicide free and are ground fresh for each batch of food produced.However a truly hypoallergenic dog food would not contain any corn

They also use purified oils, such as fish oil, flax seed oil and canola oil. For fiber they use beet pulp, tomato pumice and oat fiber.

Again Eagle offers several different foods The draw back with some of their products is the inclusion of corn, which can be upsetting to a dog’s digestive system. As a general rule I would not feed my dog a food that included corn.
However if your dog is not allergic it you should be fine.
I would recommend any of Eagle's foods that do not include corn and again say that they would be suitable for any dog and in particular for a dog with a food allergy who needs hypoallergenic dog food.
